[IC] The Odd Job

Darrowhill/Tomb
Evening
Round 0

“Bloody balls,” Hrgach muttered, trying to wipe off the sticky stuff and staring at the doors. “Fire, moonlight, and sword. What you fear most? Well, fire, if I’m covered in bloody pitch. Please don’t tell me we have to go through that door.”

OOC: How much pitch is still on the walls after Hrgack goes through?

Does it look like it would burn _off_ the wall if fire were placed on the wall?

How is the place lit? Torches? Light spell?

"I suppose Balin would be upset if we set fire to that pitch and it caused a reservoir above to explode." Ana muses. "I wonder though if we could plug up where it seeps down and avoid getting as covered by the stuff as our personable hobgoblin friend."

"Perhaps, we cover up with a bed roll before squeezing through and leaving the soiled bed roll behind. Probably have to buy new bed rolls afterward."

Ana pulls out her bed roll from her back pack and gives this a try, making sure her head and hair are protected from scraping against the walls or being dripped upon from above.

Ana craftily wiggles through in her Bedroll the extra bulk makes it a tight squeeze indeed there are a few moments when she fears she may be stuck but she eventually makes it through, mostly clean the Bedroll however is one big congealed mess of tar.

"Well, I suppose we won't be able to reuse my bedroll to save on bedrolls." Ana laughs. She turns to Hrgack, "Do you want to go back while I open a door? I think we should open the next door while the others are still on the other side of the tar."

“I’ll be fine,” Hrgach assured Ana. “I’ve got a spell. Let’s just get this over with. Which door are you wantin’?”

Ana considers the door. "Okay," she muses. "The 'I' in 'I know what you fear most' should the tomb's occupant, Balin's father. So who does he's father think his talking to? A grave robber perhaps? Or Balin?"

She looks back at the folks on the other side of the tar trap. "Could someone go ask Balin, if he's still waiting outside, which he fears most: fire, the moon, or the sword?" As an afterthought, she adds, "And don't forget the top step is trapped."

She turns back to the doors. "Now, if he's asking grave robbers, we have no way to figure out the right answer. But why would the father expect Balin to come down here? Obviously to get the book we are looking for. And the book is about creatures of the night. And thus the reader's fear of the moon is probably greatest of these fears since he is entering this tomb to solve his problem with the moon. So, if they don't get an answer from Balin, I'd say we go with the moon. But let's wait a moment to see if Balin will answer the question."

She now regards Hrgack, "Do you have a different plan? I'm just guessing here."
