Now you've got me wondering... if anyone were so motivated to round up fatbeards and threw them in an oven, would they still smell like bacon, or would there be an aroma of Cheetos?

They would smell just like any other group of people that you threw in an oven. Are you sure you want to continue with this analogy?

Definitely let the analogy go. As it is, it's already (as Seinfeld would say) a pretty big matzo ball hanging out there.

Hey, howzabout you knock it off with this whole dour schtick of comparing gamer nicknames and stereotypes with MUCH more serious real world things? It's ridiculous behavior and hideously inappropriate.

What do you consider yourself?

So he says to me, 'You wanna be a baaaaad guy?'
And I say yeah, baby! I wanna be bad!
I SAYS, SURF'S UP, SPACE PONIES! I'M MAKING GRAVY WITHOUT THE LUMPS!
Aaaaaa-hahahahaha!

Oy that ain't kosher.

"Howzabout" you don't tell me what to think or feel? I don't find references to rounding up a group of people and sticking them in ovens to be funny. If you think pointing out my feelings on the matter is inappropriate, either ignore me or find a mod who agrees with you.

Good lord. Either you take gaming waaay too seriously, or you don't take real world problems nearly seriously enough.

Again, please don't try to tell me what to think or feel. I'll take things as seriously as I please. I'm sure you expect equal treatment.

I honestly don't see how anyone can consider fatbeard, 3tard or 4on anything but slurs. Within this gaming community grognard is one too (according to the OP it is - at least according to his own vote in his own poll here). I honestly don't want to associate with people who belittle others as a form of wordplay. Fatbeard particularly riles me up, since it's an attempt to separate someone from the community at large based on superficial physical qualities.

Truthfully, I'm a little disheartened to see you repped for slagging on this idea by people whose opinions I generally respect. Can anyone really defend calling another person these names? I can accept that people are uncomfortable with it, that they won't be as strident as me in the matter - but to seriously defend it?

Just because they're not as loaded as other slurs, they're still slurs. Real people in the real world have really been hurt by them, and I don't feel bad at all bringing anyone down by reminding them of that.

Fatbeard? I'm definitely a skinnybeard, then. Why isn't that a stereotype? :p:lol: (I would love to rant on, but that would be too easy to misinterpret in written form)

I consider myself neither old-skool nor new-skool, since I mainly played and play 2E, which falls in between, if I'm not mistaken. Weird-skool it is.

I think it's weird that more people voted 'geek' than 'nerd', since I feel geek is much more negative, while nerd mainly refers to a subculture, which includes at least one famous Dutch soccer player (booya!). Apparently, we have more cool guys & gals than nerds on EN World!

I went Gamer, Geek, Nerd, Old School, and New School.

Sure, those last two may seem at odds, but I don't view them like that at all.

I prefer to mix and match the best aspects of both playstyles.
