I am a:

"Howzabout" you don't tell me what to think or feel? I don't find references to rounding up a group of people and sticking them in ovens to be funny.
Intriguing points, Uder, but I think this is a discussion more appropriate for ENWorld's more laissez faire relative, Circvs Maximvs.

There is some mention of the issues you raise towards the end of this thread, post #130 onwards.

Fatbeard particularly riles me up, since it's an attempt to separate someone from the community at large based on superficial physical qualities.

In the interests of helping to avoid future snackfood-related schisms among the worldwide brother-and-sisterhood of geeks, this short clarification is offered:

Fatbeardeness requires neither fatness nor beardedness. It's a stereotype intended to be illustrative of a personality type most popularly represented by the Simpson's Comic Book Guy, and while the name suggests physicality it's not actually intended to be physically descriptive. It is routinely applied to those with no resemblance at all to the CBG himself.

Since it is in fact not holding anyone up for ridicule or separation based on physical characteristics at all, your specific concern is unsupported.

Choosing to dislike anyone based on physical characteristics is awful silly anyhow, when there's all their lovely behaviors to take issue with.

I think it's weird that more people voted 'geek' than 'nerd', since I feel geek is much more negative, while nerd mainly refers to a subculture, which includes at least one famous Dutch soccer player (booya!).

The way I've always heard it, geeks actually know what they're talking about, whereas nerds just enjoy the subject matter.

Which Dutch soccer player is a nerd? I'm half Dutch, and I was rooting for the Netherlands big time during the World Cup this year.
