D&D 5E (2014) IG's "It's a Brand New World" [IC]

OOC: [MENTION=23484]Kobold Stew[/MENTION], you can redirect your attack to something else if you wish since the scarecrow is already dead. I'll be sure and put two of those in next time. :)

ooc: Okay; thanks. I don't know what a short sword does against a swarm, so can he move against Clara? (not to kill, if possible). Should I reroll? If so, please use these rolls: [roll0], damage [roll1], plus [roll2] if Sneak attack is viable.

"Noooo!" Gronde yells as Garrison slaps at Clara with the flat of his blade. "Don't kill her, she's just scared!" Gronde continues to chase after her, unsuccessfully. Clara continues her rampage, and Andert is too slow jumping out of the way and gets his leg nipped.

"She... she bit me!" he yells, and already the skin around the bite begins to grey. Mortimer Montri, on the other hand, has gone completely still, and his skin has taken on a grey stony texture.

The insect swarm covers Nissa, their tiny teeth and stingers leaving hundreds of pinpricks of blood all over the poor girl.

OOC: Details:
* Clara's targets are chosen at random.
* Mortimer is turned to stone.
* Nissa takes 10 damage from the insect swarm, no poison.
* Everyone else gets a turn before the bad guys go again.

Nissa screams and frantically tries to get out of the swarm. Her scream turns guttural and her fear quickly turns to rage...

Although she is obscured by the swarm, she seems to grow, her eyes becoming feral, her body becoming more muscular and yet gangly, and the skin of her face stretching thin, becoming her look gaunt, almost skeletal. Her skin takes on a bluish tone. She removes her axe from the case on her back she'd been carrying it...more like tearing it out...and starts swatting at the bugs with it.

OOC: Rage! Nissa now has resistance to bludgeoning, slashing, and piercing damage. Attacking with battle axe two handed (not sure how effective its going to be vs a swarm but...options are few) - Attack: [roll0] Damage: [roll1]

When it's his turn, Garrison again attempts to stun Clara.

[roll0], damage [roll1], plus [roll2] if Sneak attack is viable.

Not sure what else to do, Aedon chants and fires a bolt a pure fire at the swarm hoping to burn or at least scare off the insects as Nissa appears in big trouble.

[roll0] 23 for [roll1] 7 damage

Justice

Justice swings again at the bird, starting to care less and less about whether or not it stays alive. Nissa's scream of agony focuses his thoughts and he unleashes a ferocious attack on the cockatrice.

[sblock=Details]Longsword attack 1d20+5 = 23 to hit the cockatrice with his second swing for 11 damage (1d8=8 +3 =11)[/sblock]

J'hanna growls with frustration, but she stays focused on the tasks at hand. First she shuffles forward and lashes out at the swirling cloud of insects- to absolutely no visible effect. Then she drops back beside Aedon, ready to protect him if needed.

OOC: Move forward, whip attack at swarm 1d20+5= 8, move back to beside Aedon. If he is attacked, she will use her Reaction to impose Disadvantage on the first attack roll against him, through her Protection fighting style beenfit.

Andert tries to scream as his body fails him, but his mouth is instead captured in a frozen state of silent terror. Redis is likewise terrified, but not at the cockatrice or at the state of his friend. "Wha... what is that... thing?" He points to Nissa, or what was Nissa only a moment ago. He tries to go for his dagger, but can't for the life of him seem to find it.

Nissa does a fair job of waving off the swarm, but Aedon's ball of fire seems to do the trick and gives Nissa a moment of reprieve.

Garrison strikes at the cockatrice, but his restrained attack isn't enough to bring it down. Suddenly, Clara's head seems to just fall off, and Gronde's screams of terror drown's those coming from Nissa.

"You killed her!" the half-ogre stands in shock for a moment, watching Clara's headless corpse do its death dance. His chest begins to heave, and it looks as if he's starting to foam at the mouth as he produces a large club seemingly from nowhere. He locks eyes on Justice. "You killed my friend," he says through clinched teeth. And then he charges! In his blind rage his attack thankfully goes wide. (natural 1)

With Clara's death and Gronde's dramatic rage, no one seems to notice that the swam has regrouped and found a new feast in the druid Maighan! (18 to hit for 10 damage, bringing Maighan to 0)

OOC: When her action comes up...

Nissa doesn't let the reprieve last long. She sees the half-ogre going after Justice and seems to instinctively recognize Justice as an ally...and therefore the half-ogre is an enemy. She lets out a wet sounding gurgling roar and charges the half-ogre.

Attack - [roll0] Damage - [roll1]
