A summary of events so far...

Aedon and Nissa have been sent by the headmaster at Blackthorn Academy in Kingsport to escort J'hanna home to her village near Silverport to bury her friend. While there, they are to investigate the strange blight that has come upon the outlaying villages, including J'hanna's own home.

Maighan has left her home in the Central Marches to find the answers about her elven heritage that she so desperately seeks. She's also left behind a broken man who has failed to profess his love for her. Would she have stayed if she had known?

Garrison, now unemployed, has offered his services to J'hanna and Aedon and their quest. Justice, too, after a brief relapse into the drink, has offered his services. He is indebted to Nissa for bailing him out of some trouble with an over-sized barkeep in Silverport.

Andert and Redis, two fellow humans from J'hanna's village (which has yet to be named), have met up with the party in Silverport and are providing escort into the blighted lands away from the city proper. Is the blight thickens, and overgrown vines and brambles take over the landscape and creep their way onto the narrowing road, the party encounters Mortimer Montri, a dirty gnome with bad teeth, and his companion, the half-ogre Gronde.

Gronde's pet cockatrice, Clara, is frightened by something in the wind, and Gronde takes her from her cage to soothe her. Nissa gets too close to an old scarecrow and stirs up an insect swarm, which promptly attacks her. The scarecrow, too, comes to life, but Aedon's quick actions obliterate it before it can cause any harm. Perhaps when this is over someone will reason that scarecrows aren't suppose to randomly come to life. Or perhaps not...

The cockatrice Clara becomes frightened and uncontrollable, escaping from Gronde's grip and pecking at Mortimer Montri, petrifying where he stands. Gronde chases the beast before it can cause any more damage, but not before Clara nips at Andert, also petrifying him.

Justice finally puts an end to the ridiculous scene and cuts down the cockatrice. This enrages Gronde, who then turns that rage on to Justice.

Meanwhile the insect swarm ravages Maighan and makes its way to one of the horses pulling your wagon.

J'hanna's eyes widen at the sight of Nissa's furious rage- she hadn't noticed until now just how different the young woman had become in the chaos of the combat. It was, perhaps, a blessing that she couldn't see the insect swarm feeding on one of the horses- for the moment, the other horse blocked her line of sight...

She turns her attention back to Aedon for a moment. "Stay back, out of reach!" After a moment, she adds, "You stay back too, Redis. We need you to handle the wagon. Let us handle the fighting." And suiting her actions to her words, she steps forward a pace or two and lashes out at Gronde with her whip. The coils of the blacksnake wrap around the half-ogre's throat, nearly pulling it to the ground. Then she shuffles back, keeping her position between Aedon and Gronde, her shield held ready...

[sblock= OOC] Move forward, whip attack, move back to keep position for Aedon. Then ready to use her Reaction and Protection style to help Aedon if he is attacked. [/sblock]

OOC: Still here also. Apologies. With work limiting my internet access now, I've had less time to get online than I used to, but worse I seem to have fallen into the habit of not posting until it has been longer than it should. I'll try to do better, but I can't promise I'll even get to check the thread every day sadly.

Justice swings hard again at the raging Gronde, hitting hard if he hits at all. 'Dammit!', he thinks to himself, 'Friends dropping and I'm stuck fighting this brainless lump. I need to finish this quick.'

[sblock=Details]Hits AC 14 for 11 damage.1d20+5=14, 1d8+3=11[/sblock]

As others start grouping around the half-ogre, Garrison strikes again, this time with the flat of his blade, hoping that a solid thrumping might end this.

to his [roll0]. If successful damage = [roll1] plus [roll2] for sneak attack.

Redis tries to calm the horses, but he's having a difficult time fighting off the swarm. Aedon's errant blast frightens them further, however, and the team tries to run away through the thick undergrowth. The carriage wheel gets caught on a thick vine and snaps the axle, bringing the carriage down hard on its side. One of the horses loses its footing and also falls with an eerie wail. The second horse strains against the reigns, but is unable to move any farther. Mortimer Montri's horse remains in place. Redis, now free of the burden of settling the horses, finds himself overcome by the insect swarm.

Nissa misses with her enraged attack, but when J'hanna catches Gronde by the throat, Justice and Garrison are able to move in for the attack. Despite Garrison's efforts to the contrary, Gronde succumbs to his wounds and falls at Jutice's feet in a bloody heap. He stretches his arm and fingers out to their full length, and dies dramatically with his beloved, albeit headless, pet under his loving hand.

OOC: Nissa is technically up first, but all the PCs will get to act again before the swarm attacks again, so posting order isn't necessarily a priority at this point unless someone's action hinges on another's.

Nissa has enough presence of mind to know she doesn't want to go anywhere near that swarm again. This seems to calm her enough that the rage subsides and her appearance returns to normal. She looks around, confused for a moment, then with dawning horror as she realizes what's happened.

Aedon fires another flame towards the swarm hoping his aim is better than last time, "Thanks for the help!" He screams glancing at the poor half ogre.

When Garrison sees the massive man fall before him, he thinks of Redis lying on the ground and instead turns to him, seeing if he is dead or merely dying.

OOC: It sounds like Justice didn't get his swing, if Gronde died from Justice's attack. Can I change my action, then? If yes, then I'd like to attempt to stabilize Redis (DC 10 Wisdom (medicine) check). [roll0]. If unsuccessful,or if not allowed, that will be my action this doing round as well. [roll1].

Though there is still the swarm to deal with, Garrison can use the last round to to try to keep Redis from dying while he's being attacked. Kind of a unique circumstance to attempt the check while he's still being swarmed, so I don't think an 11 will do it. A 17 will certainly get it done though.
