improved sneak attack

Would it be overpowered to have an improved sneak attack feat that increased the die type of a sneak attack by one. It applies to a single sneak attack and cannot be stacked, but can be taken multi times and each time it applies to a seperate sneak attack die.

so, the first time it is taken a person with sneak attack +3d6 becomes +1d8+2d6?? if so that seems fine if not a little weak.

I think there was a crazily overpowered feat in one of the Traps and Treachery books that increased them *all* by one dice. I agree with Crothian about this one :)

actually, that feat wasn't that bad. even with ten levels of rogue it only averaged 5 points of more damage.

5 points of damage per hit? That's better than Weapon Specialization.

Hmm, what about one that increased the SA die size, but only on a crit? (Since typically you can't SA the same foes whom you can't crit.)

seaks attacks don't happen as often as just attacking which is all weapon spec needs
The problem was that it did +10 more damage after 20 levels in rogue. Or worse, if the character had a few PrCs that increased SA damage dice, it did even more. I like Nifft's idea about the crits a lot, actually.

I agree that it should land somewhere in between. As written, the feat only increases damage by 1 point under limited circumstances. Although increasing it by one die for ALL sneak attacks seems powerful, the character will either a) have a lot of sneak attack and thus few feats, or b) have many feats and very little sneak attack. So if it benefits them a lot, they gave up a lot for it.

Ya, but 10 more damage at 20th level is nothing. Even if you min max it to get +15 damage, it is not that big of deal by the time one hits 20th level. At tthat level there are many good ways to reduce the chances of a sneak attack, so defenses against it rise as well.
