Incantatrix help/opinions

Only if you play a 3.0 campaign, but then the Incantatrix class works different, too.

There is, IIRC, a spell in Complete Adventurer, which does something similar.

Wieldskill is still around... it's just available to Gond Clerics only, now... I believe.

If a school of magic is prohibited for you, it's prohibited. You can no longer use any spell completion or spell trigger items with spells from that school, nor can you cast them.

No further verbage is needed on the part of the rules.

You lose access to what you used to be able to cast.

I don't have PGtF in front of me... but I do have the DMG. p194, from the Red Wizard:

DMG said:
He can still use the prohibited spells he knew prior to becoming a Red Wizard, including using items that are activated by spell completion or spell trigger.

Huh. That's new. It wasn't in the original write-up of the Red Wizard.

I guess, before you become a Red Wizard, you should copy all the spells of the school you're about to give up into your spellbook.

That's going on the House Rules chopping block. :)

A similar text is also in the 3.0 Incantatrix description. It's not in the 3.5 description (not the opposite either, of course), which has been completely renewed, but I absolutely consider that an oversight. And I likewise absolutely prefer to go by the DMG 3.5 precedence there instead of inventing a new rule for what happens when you gain a prohibited school after 1st level, which normally is not possible.

Not a useful addition to the discussion, but...

Yes, Extend Spell is very nice as an Incantatrix (BTW, if your character is male, he would be called Incantater, Incantatrix is the femininum). :)

Sorry, but I think even if I played a male caster, I'd still call him an Incantatrix. The alternate makes him sound like a magical potato. :)

Heh. Oh yes, and it's Incantatar, not Incantater, as I wrote above. :)

And even though in the rules they speak of Incantatrixes, I would think the plural should be Incantatrices, or not?

Regarding the high Spellcraft DCs: take Skill Focus (Spellcraft)

How often do you guys use these abilities ?
Numerous times each day - especially Extend Spell.
This is in an epic campaign with a lot of players though... at least 3-4 other casters usually (counting the not-so-insignificant cohorts). The more casters you have in the group, the more valuable these skills become.

Which Metamagics do you recomend ?
Extend Spell - will be your most used feat by far.

Do I change my feats ?
I would so you can qualify for Arch-Mage ASAP.
Personally, I would ditch Illusion or Enchantment instead of Necromancy, but that's highly dependent on playstyle.

Extend spell seems like a great pick to help out my Cleric, any other choices ?
Extend is the one to get early. Later on, I'd look to acquire Chain Spell, Persistent Spell and possibly Widen Spell.

Divine Insight (Cleric 2) in Complete Adventurer lasts 1 hour / level and gives the caster a (5+caster level, max +15) insight bonus to one skill roll in that time

Weildskill (Initiate of Gond 1) in PGtF lasts 1 min / level and gives a target a +5 competence bonus to one skill for the duration (or a weapon or armour proficiency)

So unless you're a cleric yourself or have a cleric of Gond in the group, neither are going to be terribly handy in helping you make your Incantatrix Spellcraft DC's

As for the prohibited school thing, I'd personally say that once you pick up a barred school, then I'd agree with some of the earlier responses in that you'd completely lose all access to it, including any spells you already knew just as a when a specialist wizard chooses his barred schools. The text in the Red Wizard entry I'd take to be a special ability of that class.

As to your feat choice thus far, seems pretty solid to me :)
