Invasion of Mori - IC [3.5][CE/NE][planar]

"I suppose this thorn won't be extracted until we deal with the temple...with any luck the worm's retreated there too so we can get it all over with at once. Gabriel, what news from the gate?"

She casts a quick detection cantrip and scans the kobolds to see if they have any items of enchantment on their persons.

Once more the sound of metal shearing echoes throughout the cavern, and then a soft, low thrumming begins. The veiled diplomat mutters unpleasantly at this development, gloved hands tugging at the pockets on her newly-repaired leather clothes as if checking something.

"Show us the way to the inner lair," demands the diplomat in Draconic. In response, the enthralled kobold lifts a single finger and points at a section of ground. "Oh, that figures," she remarks. "I had hoped otherwise, but that sound probably is coming from there."

[sblock=Silhouette and any others who can detect magic]
You can see the faint glow of abjuration from the indicated area. Also, of the kobold mages, all wore iron or steel rings, but only three detect as magical.[/sblock]

"Clear back, and I shall deal with this trap as I dealt with the ones before," offers the large babau, hefting his glaive.

OOC: Please do not forget to post your present descriptions (i.e. if you're a little worse for wear, note it.) A little detail goes a long way! ;) I myself will try to post descriptions for the missing players' characters.

"Snargle! My good troll, do be a good boy and don't eat all the kobolds, hm? Send back the bodies and equipment through the portal. Remember we're here to help with financing, not just purely indulge our own whims... those that is a perk," Gabriel says with a sweep up his golden cloak. Lovely and fair as an angel-touched human, he seems horribly out of place here. Except for the fact that he just stepped out of a portal to the Abyss, you'd think he was the enemy.

Gabriel steps forward and scoops up the ring that fell from the kobold's arm. Muttering to himself he opens his eyes to magical auras to take a look at the ring... and anything else about the room. Eyes bright, he scoops up three of the rings.

"Send these back through the portal as well," he says. "We need funds and bodies, in large quantities and quickly. Try not to mangle the creatures beyond use when you kill them, difficult as that might be for some of you. You know how much some of the reanimators hate having to stitch together spare parts."

Snargle wipes the last of the burning oil from his unscorched flesh absently with one clawed hand. The currently man-sized troll's claws scrape a little against his metal breastplate and clear the gunk off his wicked looking mace's handle. Then he drops the mace back against his side to lick the remains of kobold off his long claws. His fiendish eyes glow redly as he sniffs the air taking the scent of the newcomers.

Aldred unexpressively glares at Gabriel* as he quickly scoops up anything that resembles useful loot as if it's his right.

"Indeed. Though some of them also consider stitching corpses together to be the highest artform."

OOC: Anyone significantly injured and/or suffering from negative status effects?

*No eyes? No eyebrows? No mouth to smile, grin or frown? Sense Motive checks against a Bone creature must be nearly impossible...

Rose, Snargle, and Kelteror are all injured, though the troll does not seem to be much bothered by his injuries and the babau is only looking singed on the edges.

The dark spirit that is Kaelvorr finally manages to subjugate the kobold sorcerer, crushing his will and taking his memories for its own. Kaelvorr sees a pitiful tribe of kobolds, eking out a meager existence. One day, a mysterious robed figure came from elsewhere - a fellow kobold - and spoke of change. He defeated the tribal elders alone, and he alone developed methods for the kobolds to tap their inborn sorcerous potential. With this, they dominated the surrounding kobold tribes unopposed.

Then came a great gathering of the goblin tribes. The kobolds refused to side with the goblins, for they knew they would be viewed as mere fodder in the coming conflict, and for that they were punished. Chased from their lands, they moved south, skirting around the human settlements that they knew would be trouble. Finally they surprised the secret of Roillard's growing abyssal force, but rather than chase them out he suggested that they undertake a job for him.

The sorcerer knows nothing of the job, but of those who left to do it, few returned. The leader himself was changed horribly, his body ruined, and forced to turn to some experimental magics to survive. He became a dark and brooding figure, even more so than before. Great amounts of material, both magical and mundane, disappeared into his sanctum and nothing came out.

"Some funds are needed on this side of the gate too," Silhouette says peevishly to Gabriel.

Silhouette is a slim woman of slightly under Gabriel's height...a little tall for a human female, but not outlandishly so. She's dressed in a clingy, rather provocative dress that shows off her figure to good advantage without being tasteless. All her garments, from the fur-trimmed hooded cloak to the dress to the shoes on her feet are of rich make and immaculate appearance. A mithril and platinum tiara with a single ruby in the center adorns her head, losing itself in her lustrous, deep red hair...the majority of which is hidden in the hood of the cloak. Her eyes are red as well; the same shade as the blood red gem on the tiara, stark evidence of other than human heritage. The most obvious difference is her skin though...it is black. Not the dark brown of some human beings, nor even the midnight violent-blue of drow, but completely black. The whites of her eyes and teeth show up against this with shocking contrast.

As she talks, she moves away from the 'trap' the babau speaks of, warning, "There's abjuration on it. Could easily be a trap or glyph.Take that as you will."

Kelteror is an abnormally large figure who wields a mighty glaive with seemingly little effort. Though generally humanoid in shape, his origin and habits give him away as a demon, a fact that he does not bother to hide from his fellow Abyssals. Those who have seen him fight already know him for a babau.

When all allies have stepped away from the indicated area, he gestures imperiously at the wall, and it ripples and melts, revealing a stone staircase leading down.

Gabriel flashes her a winning smile, as if she just said something witty.

"Please darling, you were doing such a rip-roaring job that I had to come back to add my touch to the good work. Do excuse my over-enthusiasm," he says cheerfully, though clearly is not repentant. Then again, repentance might be an entirely foreign concept to Gabriel.

As the wall melts away, Gabriel smiles again.

"Lovely. Shall we proceed? Rose? Snargle?" he bows them forward, to all appearances deferring to their lead. "Your strength is needed. I shall remain midwise so I may exhort you or excoriate any enemies we may find with ease."
