Invasion of Mori - IC [3.5][CE/NE][planar]

Gabriel's head comes up at Kelteror's comment and he fixes the babau with a stern glance. "I think, from our host's comments, that the kobolds know who was going to pay them and have attempted before now to extract their pay. I could probably persuade them otherwise, if we wish to become saviors, but we must consider our numbers. Amongst us we have constructs, demons, devils, and undead, not to mention monsters. While we could destroy the kobolds with little effort, unless everyone was willing to diguise themselves and promise not to devour and mutiliate the bodies, living or dead, convincing them that we're saviors would be... challenging.

"Also recall we are under the threat of an avatar. I would not care to undertake reckless ventures until we discern the nature and scope of this creature. Avatars can have a sorrowful way of uncovering lies and deceptions, which could set all our plans to naught."

"I can cast several Divination spells this evening to determine if I can learn anything additional about this Godling," Vedak tells Gabrial, "But I do not know if I will learn anything or not. The knowledge gleaned is, unfortunately, not always straightforward. However, right now I am mainly curious about one thing: how much is owed to the Kobolds?"

Roillard blinks at the onslaught of questions, nodding assent to the bard's explanation of payment. "Though they only number in the dozens, they have arcanists. If they were completely pitiful, of course, we would not have hired them. To answer your question, lady, I doubt they know of the portal - though they may have guessed. The last battle was quite visible."

"I'll be ready in a moment then."

Hanaav snaps his fingers, and an exquisite black longbow appears in his hand. Reaching into his robes, he draws forth a bit of rabbit fur, and begins rubbing it along the length of the longbow.

"This will take a minute. While I'm at it, perhaps we should plan a bit? I was thinking Gabriel could go soothe their concerns with false promises and honeyed words. Should that fall through, I have a pet that will prove quite a conundrum to their so-called arcanists. Snargles talents seem obvious in this particular battle, while I imagine friend Vedak has some measure of crowd control up his sleeve. Am I correct in my assumptions gentlemen? And lady," he adds to Loriel.

Loriel smiles. "I don't do 'crowd control,' if I can avoid it," she says. "But if I can catch arcanists off guard, I can litter the ground with their corpses. My suggestion would be to let me stalk their most powerful sorceror, and at the moment I strike, the rest of you attack as you please. The resulting chaos should be most satisfactory."

Arxas closes his eyes, rolling them beneith his eyelids. Such idle queries. "Persuade them if you can," the mage opines in a gravelly voice, making himself heard to his partners for the first time, "and I will set them upon each other if you cannot. Waste no time on trifles such as this when demigods oppose us."

Gabriel supresses a sigh at the delay of (in his mind) more important things for a pack of kobolds. "Go ahead and kill their most powerful ones, if there's any left after, if they haven't already fled the field, I shall be able to persuade them there's no profit to be had here," he says with a small smile. "Go ahead, I'll catch up and then watch the show."

"What defenses are in place at this side of the gate? I was under the assumption the gate has been heavily fortified and will stop any attempt short of a full scale army to take it." The maug askes the group at large.

Roillard stands, leaning on his staff, and makes for the door. "We should see to a defense. From the explosion, it does not seem they have come to talk."

Reaching the doorway, he turns. "As to your query, sir, the advance force itself constituted the bulk of the defenses here. Without it, we are relatively vulnerable. We have undead, of course, but they were largely depleted in that battle as well."

Snargle's green fists flick open revealing long black hooked claws. His lips pull back in a snarl and he says in the mortal tongue "Ready."
