Critical Role Is Critical Role Scripted (behind the scenes)

I love the part where Matt says he has to watch the tape of the show to down write what he improved during the live game in reaction to players actions.

Nothing really surprising here. It's not scripted, although for public events at conventions they are more aware of what needs to happen. Occasionally the players will have discussions outside of game time between themselves to discuss tactics or chat with Matt at a high level about doing something special. If they have a special guest coming in, the group will typically know. But nothing that I haven't seen or done on a regular basis in my own campaign.

Matt did mention that some other live play games he's been involved with have certain important points planned out ahead of time, which is something I suspected of other actual play events I've watched. But primarily they just reiterated that people should play their game and not try to copy or emulate CR. Which I think is a good takeaway. If you're having fun playing the game and enjoying yourself, getting what you want out of the game, you're doing it right.
