Is SVGames an honest business? Was I the only one stolen?

I've never had a problem with online business transactions, and I've made a bundle of 'em. That said, I don't have much specific experience with SVGames, except downloading an ESD or two.

I ordered from SVGames once. They claimed they'd ship within a few days, but didn't-- even though they charged my card immediately.

I sent some polite emails and left phone messages, but got no response for a couple of weeks. Then I threatened to dispute the charge with my bank and also sue SVG. Mere hours after that, I got a response to the very first email I'd sent, and they sent my shipment out one day later. It got to my door a few days after that.

According to the company, the delay was due to high order volume. That's a perfectly reasonable explanation, and I have no reason to believe it's false. In all fairness, I did get what I paid for, and at a good price. But just for me, personally, I would think twice about ordering from them again.

The ESD issues are not their fault. The website explains that the files are chopped up and it also explains that you need Adobe Acrobat to read them. I've purchased several ESDs from SVGames and have had no problems whatsoever.

And to clarify, they left, I stayed.

I ordered some stuff (replacement cards for Star Wars: Queen's Gambit) and they turned up within the specified period of business days, and were decently packaged.

Hope they come through for you.

Amazing how certain phrases in an email like "dispute" or "charge back" will get a reply/response from a company that has been ignoring emails or other forms of contact.

You know, you COULD just support your Friendly Local Game Store instead of buying on line, and help the entire industry with your purchases!

Ditto.

In fact, I too did not understand that they chopped up their PDFs. I emailed them and got a response back in hours.

The download worked fine after that.

I was VERY happy last year when I heard that RPGNow would be providing WotC ESDs. If you are considering buying ESDs, I would highly recommend them.

This is at least the second or third thread I have seen about Customer Service problems with SV Games. They may be nice people, but if they can't handle the volume of orders better than the stories I've heard, I will definitely steer clear of them.

I might agree about buying stuff in local game stores...but for a lot of people, myself included, geography prevents it.

If I wanted to visit the nearest game store, I would have to wait as much as an hour in a ferry line, spend a good twenty minutes crossing, drive for somewhere between twenty minutes and and hour on the seattle freeway, then repeat the process to get home.

Sure, it isn't that much of a hassle so long as I don't go more than once a month...

And there's a lot of people who seem to be a lot farther than I am from the nearest gaming store...

Please.

This type of thing really falls into the "Why are you posting it to this thread" type response...

Just for the record, though, for the future, try considering these little tidbits...

1) Not everything (Particularly out of print stuff, like the chainmail minis now are) is availible from a FLGS. Some FLGS aren't so F in the first place even if the stuff is in print, and either wont order stuff, or are horrid to deal with when you need to order stuff.

2) Not everyone HAS a FLGS. I don't. My "FLGS" I refer to sometimes is 70 miles away, and I get there when I can. I normaly order online as a result.

3) Some people prefer to be able to buy 4 books intead of 3 for the same amount of money.

I really get tired of people doing the "Buy from your FLGS store, not online!" thing when people ask about buying stuff online. I don't know if you have before, I just get tired of it in general... I mean, if a person is asking about online stuff, why are you posting about not-online stuff?
