Alright, gloves off. You asked for it.

The "Six Cultures of Play" is the most inane thing to happen to RPG theory in the last decade. It provides nothing of real value, and actually hinders intelligent discourse by enforcing brainless otherism and useless jargon. As internet blathering goes, it's about a step and a half away from the Time Cube.

Spellcasters having access to a wide array of flashy, cool moves and non-casters can only swing a weapon a bunch of times and maybe push a guy or knock him prone.

For example, I was looking over a third-party spell the Sorcerer in my game wanted to take, and all I could ask myself was, "why isn't this something warriors can do?". I know the answer is "because Conan can't", but why are we still limited to emulating Sword & Sorcery heroes from a century ago? (Go on, look up how old Conan is, I'll wait).

There is stuff I do not like such as PCs that are turtles and rabbits and hippos and such, but I know that others love that stuff. I do not like the general direction of the game going in a direction that I do not like, but I kind of look at it as I'm getting old and if I was a kid, maybe I would like it.

Not sure how the age of something like Conan matters. Like, at all.

And speaking of the spell, I can think of one, "surefire" way to assume a flaming form. Set yourself on fire and charge. I'll give you the spells effects. Do it in a flame proof suit and you won't even take fire damage.

I like having stuff like that as options. I ran Egyptian game and Loxodons, Giff etc make a lot of sense.

If the DMs put effort in for those races cool. Not a fan of 30-40 races pick whatever and only 6 get much effort.

Curated list makes things more appealing eg BG3 and Gith.
