D&D General Let's celebrate D&D having things we don't like! (+)

Having Ability Scores but not using Ability Scores.

Why can I hit my foes with my 13 from 13 Strength before level 19?
Or make my 14 Wisdom the DC?

oh yeah... the 20s.

In the true spirit of the thread, I have absolutely no interest in char-op, and my eyes glaze over when character generation discussion goes in that direction. And I hate how it dominates discussions about classes. Heck, to be honest, I'm not all that enamored of "character building" in D&D in general.

But you know, it's brought so many people to D&D. Not just in the 3e and 4e eras, but that base assumption that you could create a character pretty close to what you had in mind has certainly been a factor in 5e's popularity. A lot of people interested in the game would likely have bounced very hard off of TSR-era random generation. It's pushed forward the design of the game. The char-op folks broke 3e, which led to 4e, which led to many of the ideas and design elements of 5e.

All Hail Encumbrance Rules!
Yea for tracking each arrow you shoot and how much it weighs. It's awesome that you can use different weights for each type of metal coin. It's awesome that you can say to the party that just slayed the epic dragon on top of it's horde and say, sorry, you can't carry away all those coins!
I don't like not being able to tell Players they can't do our have things. Entitled little munchkins.

Man, the sarcasm and complaining are very thick for a + thread.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought the point of the thread was to try to see some kind of silver lining about the things you don't like, or to understand how they might appeal to people who are not you? Or is it really just supposed to be a list of things you hate with (at best) a sarcastic "I love it" tacked on?
I think we need a "complain about things we don't like" thread. I'll go make one.

There is a reason, the d&d community has unfortunately become large enough to split into camps some of which are intensely polarised. Back in the day it was safer, there were less people so finding each other was automatically to belong on the same team. Now a few decades later; the success of the growth of d&d from a thing lonely nerds do to something mainstream has brought with it the problems of society. We forget we’re all on the same team unified by a love of the game.
Where did it go wrong and more importantly, how can we fix it?

Although it’s not for me, I’m glad there is a thriving OSR scene.
It means people that prefer that style can enjoy the game without the need to gate keep and tear down modern play styles (in theory).

For me it's more about cariey. Generally 5E is better imho but I do get sick of hit point bloat and default easy mode and power levels.

B/X and clones different style and easier to DM for.

If I only played 5E I would have burnt out a couple of years ago. Evolved B/X is my osr preference (B/X is bland for players tbh).
