D&D 5E Level 5 Wizard... Where to go from here?

First Post
I am currently playing in a 5th edition adventure with five characters- we roll for our ability scores, and I have an amazing set that I wanted advice on how to best utilize in the future.

I am a level 5 Wizard (Human) with the following ability scores...
STR: 15
DEX: 18
CON: 16
INT: 20
WIS: 15
CHA: 15

HP: 35
AC: 14
magic items: Wand of Magic Missile

There are a total of 5 characters in the party, and we are running through an old 1st edition adventure, Temple of Elemental Evil.
The other four characters are a level 5 Fighter, level 5 Cleric, level 5 Barbarian, and a Rogue4/Fighter1.

My goal is to make my character the best it can be. My first two thoughts were to take a sixth level in Wizard, or a first in Fighter.
(Since this is our first time playing 5E, the DM has agreed to let me swap my Strength and Dexterity scores if I so choose)
I currently spend my time casting Fireballs, scorching ray, ray of frost- but with these ability scores I realized I could multiclass into any other class and probably be pretty good at it.

Is it even worth multiclassing, or should I try to level up my Wizard?

I want advice on how to best level up my character, what equipment to use, and any other advice you might have including things you would have changed in the past, the DM might still let me change it.

Unless you found yourself in melee much more often than you were comfortable with and thus wanted the extra HP and armor that a level in Fighter would give you... I personally would stick with Wizard. More levels of Wizard, the faster you acquire the higher level spells. That'd be my choice if I was making the call.

Are the multiclass rules even out yet?

With a Barb and a Rogue Fighter it looks like you have straight up fighting covered...so I would think staying in wizard would be the way to go myself.

What do you want to do with this character? With those stats, it's pretty much up to you. Do you want to be a straight caster, or do you want to be a mix of caster and warrior?

This was my first reaction, and as far as I know the answer is no.

"The best [my character] can be," is however you want to play it, fidgelel. Your abilities are already amazing, but the full ruleset hasn't even been released yet, so it's really difficult to talk about optimization at this point. In 5E, most characters are very effective by default, so don't worry about being "the best" (there is no "best") and just enjoy the character.
