Level Adjustment Kobold Hall

I'm running Kobold Hall to introduce 3 players to 4E. We're using the KotS pregens Cleric, Rogue, and Fighter. I'm considering upping their levels to 2 or 3 and go that route rather than simply dropping the number/type of kobolds.

Suggestions? (KH spoilers should be expected)

Technically, 4 levels 2's is equal to 5 level 1's.

Now magic items due make the level 2's better (since normally when you create higher level characters they start with a few).

But other than that, it should be fine.

I started Kobold Hall with just three players. So I tried something weird: I gave the players a magic item that, as long as they were within ten squares of it, gave them +1 to attacks, damage, and defenses. I figured this was the equivalent of knocking all the monsters down by a level or two, and it got things to even out comfortably.

I don't think kobold hall is tough enough that you have to up the PC's levels yet. The first two rooms should be fine to ease 3 pcs through. The third room can be slightly more more dangerous, but as long as your pcs still have their dailies it works out.

If you encourage a 6 hour retreat and rest before the dragon room, I think a party of 3 can get by at level 1. Our wizard at level 2 with the staff of the war mage just tore through the kobolds without taking a scratch, but your experiences may vary.

When I ran the PCs through, I did modify the adventure somewhat, but the terrain became functionally equivalent. The PCs had a heckuva time in the first two rooms. It was really hard for them.
