Life (the TV show)

As I've said in other threads, this is the show I've found most enjoyable this season. Ironically, it's one I probably wouldn't have watched if there wasn't a free preview on Comcast on Demand before the season started. I watched it and wanted to see where it went.

The character's are pretty good, and have pretty strong three-dimensional relationships. You are seeing aspects of the characters grow as well. For example, Dani has went from disliking Charlie to begrudgingly respecting him. At the same time, she still finds him annoying.

Also, each episode has been pretty well paced, particularly with respect to the major subplot (Charlie investigating his being framed). It's moved at a good pace, with something revealed every show (even if the revelation is in one of the bonus scenes during commercials) but slowing building up the story. Also, while slow at first, it's been steady.

Tonight's episode is a good turning point. It seems the sub-plot is getting ready to be center stage. It also shows the strengths of the show. Charlie gets to show his Zen-like view of life. It also covers the points of the "frame-up." I can see why they had this episode moved after the "season finale" of Heroes.

Thoughts?

This is the one show that I wanted to watch but couldn't fit it in. I've heard it's good though. I'm not a huge fan of "cop" shows but I'm a big fan of Damian Lewis from Band of Brothers.

The nice thing is they have the last 5 episodes online. As long as you have a high-speed internet connection you can do a good job of catching up.

The one show one my "wanted to watch, but choose not to" was Pushing Daisies. Unfortunately, it doesn't have episodes online (or "On Demand" on Comcast).

Well crap, didn't notice the time and now it's half over. Guess I'll watch it online tommorow.

Overall I've been enjoying the show, it's fun and does a good job of mixing Crime Of The Night with Metaplot.

And metaplot has taken over the spotlight this episode. I'm really interested in seeing where they go with the new episodes next year. This did a great job of wrapping up plotlines, but leaving you wanting to see more.

I really liked how Charlie's dark side has emerged. We've seen hints of it shining through his philosophical facade. They did a great job of showing it emerge, and even telegraphing his letting the facade go for the episode.

Pushing Daisies does have the last 4-5 episodes online.

I love Life, it's by far one of my favorite new shows this year.

That said, I thought this episode was by far the weakest one they've done so far. Not because of the metaplot - I think that worked well ("Am I Robin?" :p ). The main cast was hitting all the notes as usual. I think the main plot (the Zen master) was very paint-by-numbers. As soon as all the suspects were introduced, I pretty much mapped out the episode in my head. Furthermore, I think the characters were very stereotypical. While I know they only have forty minutes and change, it would have been nice if the personalities were mixed up a bit.

The "To be continued..." killed me. Argh!
