Trailer live action Moana | "Official Trailer"

More seriously, maybe it's a weird thing to say, but Johnson looks completely wrong for Maui. You want a broad solid Maori-Pasifika guy, as wide as he is tall or as close as you can get it. All muscle and fat, no definition.

Is generally agreed that the cartoon Maui design was Dwaynes homage to his grandfather

I was talking about him with my wife. Between his attempted coup of the DCU and then his failed Oscar dreams, he seems to be trying to figure out what he wants to do with the rest of his career.

Yeah very much this, he's pushing 54 now, so looking for a retirement plan is high on the priority list. At least he's realised he is not a good enough actor to start taking on dramatic roles like Bautista has.

I actually went to primary school with Dwayne so he must have been 8 or 9, I was a year ahead - my claim to fame is I once beat up the Rock, back when he was a still a pebble :)

Other than the Lion King movies and the Little Mermaid (thanks to all the people angry that Ariel was played by a Black woman), I suspect most people would be hard-pressed to list off all of the live action movies that have been made. (There's a ton of them.)

Not all of them, but I can list some of them...

Malificent (does this one actually count, as it is more of a reframing of the original story)? People loved it...I did not.

101 Dalmations (is this like...the first of the live action remakes?)

Jungle Book (this one was actually decent).

Cinderella (the best of the live action remakes. A different take on the tale, but still the same story).

Beauty and the Beast (okay movie, nothing really spectacular).

Aladdin (I actually like this one. I liked Will Smith's take on the genie, and the movie had some different ways of telling the same story).

The Lion King (why...oh why...did they even make this. It isn't even really live action...it's just another animated movie that they call live action).

The Little Mermaid (err...hmm. Divided on this. The entire celebration in what would have been a slave colony back then by the actual slaves make me think very bad things about this movie. Very bad. However, the main actress is a spectacular singer and probably does better than the original. ON the otherhand, I like the how the story was told better in the original than in this one. Strange way to feel on the movie, I both hate it with a passion, and love it with a passion).

Lilo and Stitch (I absolutely love the original movie of this. The movie is okay, but pales in comparison with the original).

Also 102 Dalmations and Cruella (the Dalmations got a lot of live)
Johnny Depps Alice

Dumbo
Peter Pan
Snow White - another movied bombed by controversy

Petes Dragon was also remade but other than Elliot the original was already live action so I dont know if it counts
The Scorcerers Apprentice was technically inspired by Fantasia but was not a remake
oh and Christopher Robin got a movie about the adult Christopher reuniting with Winnie the Pooh

101 Dalmatians in 1996 probably was the first and not that bad (great work from Glenn Close, pointless waste of Hugh Laurie). It was uneven but had this fantastic line which, in the 1990s, had to be put in the mouth of a villain:

Cruella: More good women have been lost to marriage than to war, famine, disease, and disaster. You have talent, darling. Don’t squander it.

I think Maleficent is the best of the live action remakes (though as you say, it’s really a deconstruction and reinterpretation) and Angelina Jolie does very well with the part. Good enough to spawn a sequel. Sadly I think it’s what gave Disney the idea of doing all these CGI live action remakes.

(Honourable mention to Emma Stone’s Cruella, which is also a live action reinterpretation and perfectly watchable.)

People remember the Apple Dumpling Gang more than they remember the live action Jungle Book, for instance.
The who? My mom didn't like the live action jungle book, but she also had the jungle book soundtrack on vinyl ,

Personally I liked Cruella, thought the 101 live action was and still is okay. Enjoyed Little Mermaid haven't seen the others.

"************, it's a wonderful phrase...

Mod note:
Hey. We do try to keep this a family friendly place, and safe to view at work. While you didn't use foul language, I wouldn't exactly call that appropriate, either. Keep it clean, please and thanks.
