Longspear for paladin?

While true, the powers don't require you to attack adjacent enemies, my point was more the 'point' of using reach weapons. It's to avoid being adjacent to enemies, no?

I'm playing a fighter with a reach weapon right now, so I feel the pain on this one. Using a reach weapon has a "subtle" effect I've found. There are a few times when the reach has really paid off, such as when fighting a creature with an aura that did some nastiness to those who were adjacent.

And on occasion that extra square of attacking power makes the difference. However, most of the time i try to get as close as possible because combat challenge and superiority requires the enemy to be adjacent to reap the benefits.

Have you reached paragon tier yet? The obvious combo is polearm gamble with combat superiority -- stop them from even being able to reach you -- and I'm curious how that works in practice.

Knock-prone powers also seem like they would work extremely well with a reach weapon (only Spinning Sweep at low levels, but eventually Serpent Dance Strike and the combo of Come and Get It; action point; Vorpal Tornado). If you can knock an enemy prone with one square between you, they can stand up but can't attack (too far away) or charge (too close). They might be able to charge someone else in the party, but hopefully you could set things up so that they'd have to move past you to do so, triggering another OA.
