Looking at a few Old-School Games, advice please

Gnome Berzerker

First Post
How are the games "Icewind Dale," with the "Heart of Winter" expansion (interplay -- based on AD&D 2e)?

How about "Baulder's Gate" (and BG II and III)? Is this line better/worse/same as the "Icewind Dale" games?

What about "Wizards & Warriors" (Activision)?

I've come to realize that my computer is pretty darn old and slow. Heck, I have problems with Diablo II, so I need to get an older game that will still be fun. Flipping through a Dragon Magazine, I came upon these two games. Are there any other older (3 or 4 years) fantasy RPG's that are worth picking up?

TIA

The Baldur's Gate games are some of the best CRPGs ever. You should definately check them out.

The Icewind Dale games are fun as well, although they don't reach the level of Baldur's Gate in sheer excellence.

Planescape: Torment is also supposed to be very good, although I have yet to try that one out.

LOL old school, i thought you were gonna talk about wizardry or might and magic.

Speaking of wizardry, wizardry gold is a very good game, not very graphical tho.

Fallout and Fallout 2 are still my favorite CRPGs. And you can get them for a grand total of $9.95. Your system should be okay. Fallout came out in '97, I believe.

What? Not Hunt the Wumpus or Trek?

Though I see that Lemonade Stand has made a comeback...

The Auld Grump, ahhh the good old days, when you could fit a game into 4k...

I still play Hunt the Wumpus on my TI-99/4a every once in a while. Parsec, too.

Still like Dungon Keeper 2, will sit down and play it now and then, just something about building a dungon and keeping the hordes of good at bay. :) You sometimes can find it in the bargin basements.

Unreal, Quake, Hexen, are good games.

The Mech games are good.

Master of Orion 2!

Torment is excellent, but the game that they package with it (Soulbringer or some such nonsense) is utter cr*p.

Coaster anyone?

GB, 4-5 years old is still recent, you want old school you have to go back to the '80s, maybe only the early '90s.

Definitely play Torment and Baldur's Gate 2. By far, they're two of the best CRPGs ever made, and you don't need a beefy system to enjoy them.
