[March] What are you playing?

Stealing an idea/theme from the fantasy forum, what's anyone playing right now?

Currently, my "big ones" are:

PS2: Guilty Gear X2. Man this game is great. Guilty Gear X for the DC ate hours at a time, and X2 is even better. If you enjoy 2D fighting games, GET THIS GAME. I'm loving Slayer and Bridget of the new characters, though I havn't unlocked Justice, Robo-Ky or Kliff yet...

X-Box: *guilty sigh* DOA: Beach Vollyball. Yes, I'll admit I play it. It's fun, what can I say?

Dreamcast: Vampire Hunter Chronicals for Matching Service... just managed to pick up a copy of this. Yet another great 2D fighting game.

Gamecube: Don't own one, sorry...

Game Boy Advanced: Guilty Gear Advanced. What can I say... I like 2D fighters. Guilty Gear in particular. It's an amazingly faithful port of the series.

PC: Shadowbane and Dark Age of Camelot, mostly, with some Army Ops thrown in for a change. Too poor to afford many of the new games I want for the computer... I always seem to spend my money on consoles. For what it's worth, I *want* to be playing Splinter Cell, C&C: Generals, and Arx Fatalis (Still havn't got that yet...).

Just crashed and burned out of Dark Age of Camelot (50th level fire wizard: 50 the hard way!) and am now floating in a computer gaming void... might go back to the PS2, but I'm still having the shakes from the horrible nightmare that was Kingdom Hearts (it was a gift). I'd need some Resident Evil to pull me out of that funk, BUT NO, the latest went to the Gamecube of all crap of crap. On the PC, I play Trade Wars 2002, and revel in it's simple simpleness and bask in the fleeting nostalgia.

Hey! I was a fire wizard for a while!. :)

If you still crave MMORPG action, wait for Shadowbane... It's surprisingly good, albiet a bit different in pace. And being able to make, from level 1, a character who has wings and can fly about the land is pretty cool.

PC Only:

Medieval: Total War, Warcraft III, Splinter Cell, Freelancer.

Arx Fatalis had a lot of potential, but I stopped enjoying it after a while, because the designers screwed up the "class" balance. They made it seem like one of those games where you can be a warrior, thief or mage, but in reality, the game becomes impossible for a sword-wielding guy about halfway through, and you end up cursing mis-spending your stat and skill increases at level-ups, and frantically trying to learn enough magic to survive.

To use a D&D analogy, the game is designed so that a fighter needs to slug it out with hasted enemies with magical full-plate and greatswords (and gets his ass kicked repeatedly) while a mage can just fry them with fireballs without even trying (while flying, no less).

Arn't the more powerful races (centuars / avian thingys / minotuars) going to be restricted somehow after beta's over? I got into the SB beta near the end, but was never able to get my account properly set up, a shame given I very much like a lot of the ideas they had.

PS2: Everquest Online Adventurers - which is interetsing, though I seriously doubt I'll be playing it once I'm done with my free month.
Xenosaga: Currently absorbing most of my time. Excelent, and damn hard in places! =D
Jade Cacoon 2: Havn't had this in the rotation for a while, but I'm really hoping to spend a bit time with it later this week. It has one of the most unique and well designed RPG battle systems I've ever seen, and the writing is suprisingly witty and well done.

X-Box: Marakumo. My roommate downloaded a preview movie just last week and we were both blown away that it's flown under the radar in most gaming media. But in playing it I'm afraid it's a simple fact that the game is average all around, and has some serious control issues (weapon lock-on being impossible to control and difficult to mantain). I do so love shooters, and I'm reserving final judgement, but really the more I think about it the less appelaing the game is. One more disipointing X-Box title to place next to Kung-Foo Chaos.

GBA: Tacticts Ogre - Knight of Lodis. How I love this game. Almost have my perfect group assembeled (need to make a lawful and get that angle knight, still), now to get some money and start doing bonus battles.

PC: Sim City 4. Gave MOO3 a quick spin but couldn't take the information overload.

-=Multiplayer=-
PC: UT2K3. We set up a dedicated server last week for this. I wish we had the people in the dorm to support something more tactictal, like Battlefield, but we don't (we also largly lack the computer power to pull that off).
I have a friend who's addected to freelancer, but the mouse-based flight conrtolls are a real turn-off for me.

X-Box: Halo & ATV Quad Power Racing.

Gamecube: Super Smash Brothers Melee. It will never die.

All in all, this month looks to be a chance to get re-aquanted with the PS2.

PC only: Master of Orion3, Sid Mier's Alpha Centauri, Morrowind. And a wee bit of MoO 2 and XCom....

I know there have been a lot of complaints about MoO 3, but I am having a blast.

The Auld Grump

PC: MOO3, Morrowind + Silly # of Mods

PS2 : .hack, Xenosaga
- Considering trying DMC2 and Dark Cloud 2 but I think I'll pass on those as well.

PSX : Legend of Dragoon (I'm giving it yet another chance... I'm a glutton).

GBA: Pokemon Sapphire (You think?)

PC: Splinter Cell, Morrowind, Generals

GBA: Advance Wars, A Link to the Past

Board: A giant WH40K campaign with orcs versus marines and
eldar. Has lasted 2 days so far, and still over half the troops
remain on the field (and both teams have re-enforcements ready).
