It's difficult to compare the two. We haven't seen Gwen since the 70's when comics were saccrin-coated. MJ from back then is nothing like the MJ now, especially since she's now an adult instead of college student. I don't think House of M shows Gwen enough to make a decent comparision.
In the Ultimate universe, MJ's and Gwen's personalities were basically reversed, but Gwen still died. So the Ultimate MJ is more like the Marvel Gwen than the Marvel MJ...I think. Confusing.
Anyway, can't speak for Pete, but I'd prefer the fun-loving redhead. My college girlfriend was a lot like her, come to think of it...
