matador type class or prestige...

I was wondering if there were any matador type classes out there. A character that instead of a shield or second weapon uses a device of sorts in his off hand to mislead or confuse opponents while focusing mainly on debilitating strikes rather than raw damage with the primary weapon.

I dimly remember a non-WOTC sourcebook that had a couple of feats that let a character use a cloak or cape in such a manner that they could derive some protection and other benefits. I think it was a sourcebook that dealt with swashbucking-type adventures. Sorry my memory is so bad.

There's a tactical feat called Combat Cloak Expert in the PHB2 that allows a character to pull off some of the stunts you're looking for. It has both Dex and Int requirements as well as two prerequisite feats (Dodge and Combat Expertise) and BAB+6, so it'd probably fit best with a fighter-type who already benefits from having good scores in those areas, such as a swashbuckler or a warblade.

Was it Northern Crown?

I know the old Septentrionalis stuff hade a Cloak fighting stunts system.

You Build your own class
High Dex, using bluff, dodge ands sneak attacks

I was thinking somewhere along the lines of a bluff for the cape or whatever to possibly make the opponent lose dex to AC and then the strike itself does ability damage instead of pure hitpoint.

I could see a rogue working but I didn't want sneak attack and thought maybe being able to target specific ability scores.

MAybe something like:

Level 1 - Red Capote; On a successful bluff (feint) check reduce target's dex by 1 and add 1 to your dex for the duration of the round.

level 2 - Vital strike; After a successful bluff make a standard attack to target a vital area reducing selected attribute by 1.

Level 3 - Red Capote; On a successful bluff (feint) reduce target's Dex by 2 and add 2 to your Dex for duration of round.

level 4 - Vital Strike; After a successful bluff make a standard attack to target a vital area reducing selected attribute by 2.

level 5 - Red Capote; make a full attack after successful bluff (feint).

Obviously this would need balanced, but something along these lines would be nice.

Require Weapon Finesse, Dodge, Mobility feats...

Well... Yeah... something like that. Please excuse the abrubt end... I think I just broke my foot...

Umm, a Swordsage focusing on maneuvers from Setting Sun and Shadow Hand, and feats related to them perhaps? Maybe multiclassing at some point into Warblade for a few Iron Heart and White Raven maneuvers or something? Or multiclassing into Bard or Rogue.

These are in Tome of Battle: Book of Nine Swords (published by Wizards of the Coast).

No, no, the "capote" is larger and held in two hands. The smaller cloth the matador uses at the last stages is the "muleta".

I see... To be honest I took Red Capote from SMT:Nocturne. There is a matador demon that has that move and I believe it increases his dodge ability. Thanks for the correction.

There's a feat from XPH, that is probably worth considering.
I think the feat could be interesting for a rogue. The only problems with the feat, is the short description (does it require a cloak to use?) and total lack of relevance for the XPH.
I've never seen anyone mention this feat, even though giving oneself a nonmagical form of concealment for the cost of a move-action is kinda cool.

CLOAK DANCE [GENERAL]
You are skilled at using optical tricks to make yourself seem to be where you are not.
Prerequisites: Hide 10 ranks, Perform (dance) 2 ranks.
Benefit: You can take a move action to obscure your exact position. Until your next turn, you have concealment. Alternatively, you can take a full-round action to entirely obscure your exact position. Until your next action, you have total concealment.

psychic warrior4/rogue5 w. hustle (power) and cloak dance (feat). 10 ranks hide, 2 ranks dance. yeah... a terrible build, but w. the right power choices, and feat choices it could work.
Now i just have to figure out if concealment is enough to trigger a sneak attack. probably not...
