MD-VA-DC Game Day - 10/2/04: Crunch Time Approaches - Volunteers Needed!

1. I am willing to DM. I would prefer to run Feng Shui (Hong Kong action-movie style mayhem!)
2. I would prefer an afternoon slot.
3. I'm willing to help, but work may get in the way...unfortunately, can't commit specific times :(
4. I think the best location for such an event is: Other Realms, a really great games store (best in Maryland, IMHO) located in Gaithersburg. http://www.other-realms.com/otherrealms/
The owner, Rob Kaminsky, is a former game industry professional and the store is top notch. Plenty of room, too.

UPDATE! POSSIBLE DATE CHANGE TO 8/14, 9/18 OR 9/25 DUE TO VENUE ISSUES

Ola!

Old One here...just trying to gauge the interest level of a Maryland-DC-N. Virginia EN World Game Day for either late summer or early fall. I know there is a pretty good concentration of EN Worlders in the area (Psion, Vaxalon, Destan and many others) and thought it might be fun to try to put one together.

Since I have NOTHING else to do for the next couple of months <insert serious sarcasm>...I thought I would toss another steak on the grill. What I am looking for is:

If you have an interest, please respond in this thread using the following format:

(1) I am willing to DM/GM. I would prefer to run <insert game system/genre>.

(2) I would prefer to DM/GM a morning slot/afternoon slot/no preference.

(3) I am/am not willing to help organize/schedule/coordinate the game day.

(4) I think the best location for such an event is _____________ .

I am thinking a Saturday event, somewhere around the DC Beltway. A "free" venue, such as a university student union would be ideal, but other options would work as well.

Please post your thoughts here or e-mail me at pdyer "at" pdfinancial "dot" com.

Thanks!

~ Old One

PS - For those that have organized these critters before (Rel and Mark CM, this means you) any tips are welcome!

THE DM'S LIST - Possible DMs + Genre(s) - Updated 6/2

1. Old One (D&D 3.0/3.5) Afternoon Slot
2. Doseyclwn (D&D - Edition?) No Slot Preference
3. GM Iago (D&D 3.0/3.5) No Slot Preference
4. Psion (D&D, T20, d20 Modern, Spycraft, Grim Tales) Afternoon Slot
5. Dexterward (D&D 3.0/3.5 Epic) No Slot Preference
6. Trollwizard (D&D 3.5) No Slot Preference
7. Marauder X (D&D 3.0/3.5) No Slot Preference
8. Tormenet (D&D 3.5) No Slot Preference
9. Threshel (Mutants and Masterminds) Afternoon Slot
10. Savage3e (All Flesh Must Be Eaten/7th Sea Original) No Slot Preference
11. Destan (D&D 3.5) No Slot Preference

Please not that these are people that have offered to run games. Depending on the number of tables and players, we may have more or few game tables for each slot (AM Slot & PM Slot).

This sounds like fun. My participation depends on the date as I have a Saturday college class that runs until the end of August. If we hold it on a Sunday or it is run after August:

1) I am willing to GM ( Prefer to run Basic D&D or 1st Ed.AD&D)

2) I would prefer an afternoon slot- I will have a bit of a drive to Northern VA or MD

Any reasonable venue is fine with me, although I am in favor of a Northern VA/ DC area site ( gotta drive from Fredericksburg)

Ok, so it looks like we can get a room for either 9/18 and 9/25. With the amount of interest shown so far, I would reccomend the Prince George's Room. Tables and chairs are included for the cost of the room. Right now we're thinking of round tables instead of banquet tables so that games can have their own space. Kevin, the TGC president is talking to the SGA about transfering tournament funds towards room rental. If we don't get the transfer, we should still be able to cover the rental with a $1-3 ticket price. So what's the day guys? We can reserve monday.

What's the price for the room?

Xath,

I would suggest 9/25. The more time we have to work out the issues the better.

Dexter and Marauder,

Major Tasks (as I see them) will include:

(1) Date and Venue selection - In process

(2) DM/Game/Slot Assignment

(3) Publishing DM/Game/Slot list with game description (system, level, # of players, special materials needed).

(4) Player sign-up (on-going coordination and updating)

(5) Map/Directions/Parking Instructions

(6) Layout Board/Table Numbers for Venue

I know there are others...

Old One and All,

I would like to sign up to do the DM/Game/Slot Assignment.

Let's go for 9/25...

Xath,

Let's go for 9/25...although I had hoped to hit NCGD V (same day), I will support the home team :)! Have them go ahead and reserve the room...if we come up a bit short with $1-3 per head, then I can probably make up the difference. IIRC, the room price is $125 for rental, meaning it would be ~ $2 each if we have 60 people...very reasonable.

Do they know how many rounds can be set up in the Prince George's room while maintaining the ability to move? Also, how many tables are they planning on using? We will need to know the numbers so we can plan the tables/slots.

Unless anyone else has a major beef...I say 9/25 is "Go Time"...

DW,

Noted. Let's find out how many actual tables we get...re-release a call for DMs/Games/Slot preference, then we will get a matrix set up. Once that is done, we will open it up for player sign-up.

DRAT! I was going to plan a trip to NC to join you and the crew that made the journey to NCGD IV...

Good luck with organizing and planning...and, have fun at the gameday! :D

It seems we may lose some Virginianers for NCGD, should we try for the 18th?

To see the rooms in the union, click here

I'll ask how many rounds can be had, while still having walking space. One of the nice things about the PG room is that it's right above the food court.

Aside from helping with date and venue, I also volunteer to help with (5) Map/Directions/Parking Instructions.
