MD-VA-DC Game Day - 10/2/04: Crunch Time Approaches - Volunteers Needed!

Depending on the final size (20 or less), you could also try the Game Palor in Chantilly. Also there was a game shop down route 1 in south Alexandria that had a bit of space, but not certain of its name “Eagle & Empire” perhaps? Its been many years since I have been down that way.

Saturday or Sunday is fine with me.
Eagle and Empire is TINY! Unless the gameday consists of no more than a half dozen people, we're going to need another venue.

The NC GD IV had lots of games and lots of people...and the DC Metro area has a much bigger potential "draw". Of course, scheduling lots of gamers is a bit like herding cats...so you never know ;)!

I would prefer to go with a larger venue (even if it costs a bit of money) and have ample space so we are not packed in like sardines.

The only thing about Aug 28 you may want to consider is it's a week after GenCon. I can probably swing it, but there will be complaints from the spousal unit.

Psion,

Sure...rub it in for those of us that don't get to go ;)!

Okay...how may folks that are interested in the MDVADC-GD will have a conflict due to GenCon? Of course, this could be Mini-GenCon...without all the cool stuff...for those that don't get to go :p!

EDIT: I know that we won't be able to find a day that works for EVERYONE (I am not that naive), but if 8/28 is going to be a problem for lots of folks, we can look at alternatives.

(1) I am willing to DM/GM a 3.5 D&D session. I have just the thing…..

(2) I have no preference about when I play.

(3) I am willing to help organize/schedule/coordinate the game day.

(4) I think the best location for such an event is close to where I-95 meets the DC beltway in Maryland. The Game Parlor stores have a tremendous amount of space, but are too far for MD folks. I’d say the same for NVCC. UMD is a great option if DreamWizards is a no go.

(1) I am willing to DM/GM. I would prefer to run <insert game system/genre>.
(2) I would prefer to DM/GM a morning slot/afternoon slot/no preference.
(3) I am/am not willing to help organize/schedule/coordinate the game day.
(4) I think the best location for such an event is _____________ .

One question of my own:
Is this a d20 exclusive event?

If not-
1) I'd be willing to run some Savage Worlds, if I can swing the scheduling.
2) I would probably prefer a morning slot
3) I would be able to help organize insofar as making some calls or sending some emails, but in terms of on the day itself, I would probably not be there the whole time.
4) My personal preference is MD (DW or Other Realms are both possibilities), but I'm flexible if more people are on the other side of the water.

If so-
Sorry, not interested.

Absolutely Not!

Kengar,

This is not a d20 Exclusive event...by any stretch! One of the neat things about most other EN World Game Days is DMs that run other systems. It gives people a chance to play games/systems they wouldn't normally play.

Just let me know what you would like to run and I will post it in the lead message...

Thanks,

Sponsors?

Having never run one of these things....

If we have to rent the space, could we get one or more game stores to front some cash so that they could set up a booth at the site? They gotta know some gamers will need to buy new, un-cursed dice and other items in the middle of a game. At least it wouldn't hurt to ask, and might be better than asking each gamer for $5 for the day.
I can check it out, and I would be starting from scratch as far as getting in touch with game stores, but does this sound like a good idea?

I guess they must have moved, last time I was down that way (many years ago) I believe he was in an old house. The store was spread out over several first floor rooms.

I live in Leesburg, so I would prefer it stay in Virginia and as close to the beltway as possible (it takes ~40 minutes just to get to the beltway).

Once you a confirmed date (August 28?) and a confirmed location, I will be willing to create a mini-poster to display at the local game/comic/hobby shops, that should help increase attendance.

If cost is an issue, IMO attendees will probably be able to pay $2-$5 to help pay for the room usage fees.

Hmmm...

Maruader X and Troll Wizard,

Past experiece is that some venues have restrictions on "commerical enterprises" within an event. We would have to check that out ahead of time. Charging a couple of bucks per head to defray expenses makes sense and we might be able to sell sodas and packages snacks at a small mark-up to help out as well.

Once we have 2-3 venues to check out - which should be by the end of the week - we can delve into the specifics. Getting sponsorship by from a game store off-site (of the game store) might be tough...but we don't know until we ask.
