Melee Evasion vs. Ray Spells

First Post
Can you be in melee combat with a foe, fighting defensively, and select an enemy mage across the room for your dodge enemy and use melee evasion against his ray spells? Thanks ~D

(Feat is from the PHB II)

By the book, yes. It works on one attack, and acts as your touch AC. Doesn't say anything about it requiring you to be in melee.

And frankly, I think melee evasion is a pretty weak feat as written, you need a lot of prereqs, you have to be fighting defensively and dodging on a guy, it works on only one attack AND the benefit it not that great.

I'm a 20th level fighter with a BAB of +20, so on average, I'll have an AC of 30 with melee evasion, big whoop.
