Minorities & D&D/RPGs

Hey all,

I've been gaming since I was 13 (I'm now 31). In all of that time, I can count the number of African American people that I've encountered on one hand (and not use all five fingers either). One of them is the guy who introduced me to D&D. I've seen a few latinos and asians (that includes Indians and Pakistanis et. al.) as well; not represented as much as their U.S. population, but I have seen a few. The fact that I've only met 3 African Americans that play RPGs got me curious. Are you/do you know and African Americans and/or other ethnic minority that plays RPGs? I specify RPGs because I've seen quite a few kids of all ethnicities playing CCGs.

I've met many gamers of many different ethnic groups. I've enjoyed gaming with them both as fellow players and as a DM. I think that this hobby is the type of thing that crosses barriers.

My friend who introduced me to D&D back in the 80's is African-American (mostly...something he likes to point out). Aside from him, I've only personally known one other African-American gamer, and none from any other non-caucasian ethnicity. Heck, in 20 years of gaming I've only known 9 women players.

I'm an African-American gamer myself, but in the three years I've been playing, I've only met three other black gamers, and roughly the same number of other non-whites. I think partly it might be a cultural thing, partly a socio-economic thing as to why there aren't more minority gamers... at least for the African-American population.

Hmmm, can't say that I've personally met any black gamers over the years. I have gamed with a few asians, a couple of hispanics, and a samoan, but I and nearly all of the people I've gamed with over the years are white.

I'm white. When I started gaming, the group, all teenager males, consisted of me, an Indian (from the country not a Native American), a Korean, a Japanese guy, a Filipino, and an Australian. :)

i'm a hispanic asian pacific islander

i've gamed with koreans, indians, pakistanis, panamanians, germans, brits, etc...red, yellow, brown, white, pink, black, green from too much beer & pretzels... we are all shades.

in my old OD&D group we had a whole mix of ethnicities... what we didn't have was any gamer girls.
