Hello !

We have a players in our group, that want to use two bastard sword with the two weapon fighting feat of the ranger.
<snip>

I dont see how this could be possible to use two sword of nearly 5 feet long in a two weapon fighting style.

High pain tolerance and clean living ;)

What do you think people ? I think i'm right but maybe some of you can find me a rules about this ?!

Two Bastard Swords is feeble. Instead, go for a Bastard Sword and a Sunblade - it counts as light and benefits from Weapon Focus Bastard Sword all at the same time! :)

Regardless, the rules as written permit it. That doesn't mean it's allowed in your game...see Rule 0.

Well, i think that every power gamer wont mind to spend an extra feat to do 1-2 more damage on a weapon.

If we put aside the rules i just think almost physically impossible to handle two weapon of five feets at the same times.

If you still base your reactions in the slightest upon real-world physics, Euclidian geometry, not making your head explode, or the like, you obviously haven't been around for long enough in the Rules forum.

The 3.0 Tempest was a horrible and weak class. You needed to be very high level, and of the two abilities it granted you couldn't use them at the same time. Essentially you eventually got a 4th off hand attack (at -16) at 19th character level. whoopee. And then you had to give up those 4 attracks if you wanted to get that nice AC bonus.

3.5 Tempest is far superior.

A guy who uses two bastard swords is somehow MUNCHKIN? Wow. It's a really suboptimal build. The three or four feats you put into this could be put into Power Attack, Cleave, etc. for your Greatsword.

2d6+14>2d10+6 (assuming Greatsword Guy PAs for 4, and each fighter has an 18 Str. This doesn't even consider all the feats the Two-Weapon Wielder has sunk) And that's just a basic fighter build.

Let me ask you this? Could you see someone use two Katanas at the same time?

You want to see a real "Munskin?" Wait until you have to deal with a level 7 Goliath Psychic Warrior with Monkey-Grip. These lunatics can dual wield Huge Greatswords for 6d6 base damage (albeit at the same large attack penalty as the above character) or just two-hand an 8d6 base damage Gargantuan Greatsword...

Toss in the "Oversized Two-Weapon Fighting" feat from Complete Adventurer, and his penalties are only -2/-2. Then the Dual Strike feat (from the same book), so he can attack with both Bastard Swords as a standard action. Now he's a fairly effective two-bastard sword fighter, but doesn't have very many feats for other things.

And let's not forget they can Deep Impact so they don't miss, and full Power Attack. Just in case, you know, 6d6 or 8d6 per hit wasn't enough damage.

Oh of course! I was only speaking of the base damage there ;)

I knew someone who looked into the same idea after Complete Adventurer came out, but then he realized once he went that route he burned 3 feats (TWF, EWP: Bastard Sword, and Oversized Two Weapon Fighting) just to do it somewhat effectively. And then he started looking at Two Weapon Defense, and realized that he was going to sink a lot of his feats into this concept so he could be so-so on damage, and Armor Class. He gave up and moved to the Falchion after looking at all that. :)

Quite so.... and he's spent a gazillion feats in order to do 2d10+1.5x str on two attacks instead of just power attacking with a greatsword for those two points and doing 2d6+4+1.5x str on a single attack. (Cue the music) The average of both damage totals is 11+1.5x strength.

Maybe it's just me, but I would think the build that does it in one feat is the one to worry about, not the one that takes four feats--five or six to go all the way up the two weapon fighting tree.
