My old DM is recouping from major surgery - any gift ideas

First Post
My old DM, I recently found out, had major surgery and is in a rehab place recovering for at least the next few weeks. He's a guy in his mid 30s. I'd like to get him a gift, As far as I know, he has about every d20 book known to man already. And, I don't think flowers would be his style... In the past, I've painted up miniatures for him. But, since the birth of my daughter, my mini painting time has gone from too little to none.

Any suggestions? I'd like to keep it under $50.

I'm sure we could find some d20 books he doesn't have. There are many that no one knows about.

But the painting idea sounds really good.

A starter painting set seems like just the thing. Wish him well.

I don't think painting is his cup of tea... he tried it several years back & couldn't really get the hang of it. Good idea, though.

In patient rehab or out? Makes a difference. If the former, trust me, all he wants are ear plugs and a sleeping mask. Take my word on that. If it is the latter, pizza coupons and DVDs are what he wants. Trust me, take my word for it.

Some may scoff at these (Scott Jensen can be bit corny at times, but that's cool) but these videos have helped me with painting immensely. I'm one of those people who read tons of material on "how to" paint minis and just didn't see much improvement in my techniques. It got frustrating, and as much as I wished to paint, and paint well, it just wasn't in the cards. I watched these videos, and go back and watch sections germaine to what I am currently doing, and suddenly I am not only doing well but doing it more quickly and enjoying it a lot more.

Videos

Scrounge around if you like to find them in DVD, too.
