Hope you continue to feel better MM. One of the players in my group had several mini- or micro-strokes several years ago and she has made a full recovery. It can be scary as hell, but recovery from the very mild ones can be like having a second chance at life.

Feelin good (if anybody asks :) ). I'm pretty much 'over it'. But I will be keeping an eye out for any new stroke.

Dave, tell your player, "Good on ya." from me. Hope she continues to do well, and to persevere no matter what. You can make it back.

My stroke on April 19th of 1999 was actually a pulmonary embolism. Several clots in my legs broke free because I thought I was having some kind of leg cramps, so I messaged them loose. They travelled up to my heart, and thru them, thank God, and lodged in my upper left lung. Any idea what it is like to suddenly start fighting to breathe for no apparent reason?

Anyway, they put me on blood thinners for a year and here I am five years later, doing fine. My doctor told me those clots could have blocked one of my heart valves, either the bicuspid or tricuspid, I don't remember which is on the "into the heart" side, and I would have died that day. Or it could have gone up to my brain if it had been in other blood vessels, and probably died that day, or worse, severe brain damage. She also told me I was lucky that the clots lodged where they did in my left lung.

So Mythus,

You watching ER this week to see how horrifying it could have been? I believe it is on tonight (Wed).

ER? Nope. My tv's on the blink (vertical hold), so I listen to the news and Letterman on it. Once I get my (very) past due cable bill paid for in March, I may get a new one.

Glad you got better. (Remember folks, clots in your blood vessels are bad news. :( Remember to get some sort of exercise, cuts down on the things.)

You're over it already, Mythus? Can you juggle and play the piano again? :p

That's awful! A family friend died of that. She woke up one night thinking she was having a bad attack of asthma, from which she suffered, and her husband grew so concerned he took her to the hospital. They simply treated her for an asthma attack, and so she died. :(

Pretty much. I got lucky! First thing they did was put me on intravenous liquids because they were sure I won't be able to drink on my own. And it was supposed to keep me a'bed so I wouldn't knock any clots in my legs loose. Then they find out, no clots.

Patient: Doc, once the procedure is done will I be able to play the piano?

Doc: Don't see why not.

Patient: Great! I never could before.

Hey, I joke about my experience, but a stroke can be damn serious. A stroke can kill. So if you think you or a friend are having a stroke, treat it wery seriously and get help right then and there. You can recover from embarrassment, you can't recover from death.

I have never once yet in my entire life recovered from embarassment. One time, however, I did recover from death. (Actually, it would be twice if you stretch the meaning of the term "death.")
