New Hosting Suggestions?

WizarDru

My current host has tested my patience for the last damn time. They were good three years ago, but since merging with another company a year-and-a-half ago, they've gone steadily downhill.

Does anyone have any recommendations for a new web/e-mail host? I don't need an ISP. What I need is a place to host my domain, primarily for e-mail, FTP and occasional webspace (although Livejournal has mostly usurped that function).

I use 'em, and I love 'em. First decided to try them when I found out about a promotion for insanely cheap hosting (basically it was 7 cents a month when you got their year package and used the promo code 777. This code only works for the first 777 people to use it, so it may or may not still be good. I think I remember reading in one of their recent newsletters a similar, though not quite so good, promotion with the code 888). So I figured, a year's hosting for less than $10, why not? (just to sweeten the deal, the year package included waivin the setup fee and a free domain registration)

Well, it's been so great, that I fully intend to keep them once my year's over and I'm paying the normal $10 a month. The site's been very reliable, their limits on bandwidth and diskspace are extremely generous, and even grow every month as long as you're a subscriber. They've got a great administration package in their web panel, with one-click installs of several popular applications like phpBB and wordpress.

I really couldn't be happier.

I use adthosting.com. They're a small outfit with only email support, but I've been with them almost 2 years and have had great luck. They have a cheap $50/year (or $5/month) plan with 50MB space that would probably suit your needs. You can even host a second domain on the account. I'm up to a reseller account with them and now host several websites, which is nice. Uptime is as good as anywhere else I've been. The email-only support can be annoying, but they're responsive with it.

Asmor, that red is just cruel (especially with the purple links). ;)

But that web-hosting sounds pretty decent.

I will add to the praise of Dreamhost mentioned earlier. I signed on with the 777 deal also in Feb05. I have been very satisfied so far with them and will certainly re-up with them in February at their normal rates. Also, they give you additional bandwidth and disk space for each week you host with them. They are definitely worth a look.

I've been using Doteasy (http://www.doteasy.com/) for a few years now and haven't had any complaints. They have a variety of options, including 100 MB disk space and 1GB bandwidth for free (I originally used the free option but had to upgrade as 1GB wasn't nearly enough bandwith for my site).

I used to use http://arvixe.com. Excellent host. $4-5/month with discounts for the whole year. Unlimited email addresses, good disk space, and some wizards for installing various portals/CMS/etc. Absolutely great service, even though it's email only.

The only reason I changed hosts was that I wanted a host with ASP.NET support and Arvixe is *nix only. Still, if you're looking for just email, html, and php hosting, I do not hestitate to recommend these guys.

I never claimed to be a graphic designer, and I agree that the links section is just ugly... I kinda haven't updated my site in a long time.

Oh, and I also use an LCD monitor, so the colors appear slightly different to me than they would to someone on a CRT. I've noticed that my livejournal's color scheme, for example, is very difficult to read on a CRT (red text on a black background).
