D&D (2024) New One D&D Weapons Table Shows 'Mastery' Traits

The weapons table from the upcoming Unearthed Arcana playtest for One D&D has made its way onto the internet via Indestructoboy on Twitter, and reveals some new mechanics. The mastery traits include Nick, Slow, Puncture, Flex, Cleave, Topple, Graze, and Push. These traits are accessible by the warrior classes.

I see such complaints as the continuation of 50 years of Fighters cannot have nice things.
Maybe. But sometimes it is possible to give nice things and make reasonable rules most people can live with it.

And the proposal is: take 5 damage or lose your reaction once per turn.

As a fighter mlst of the time I hope the enemy choses to lose theory reaction and I can reposition freely.

Nick is useless for Fighters as they so rarely use bonus actions, I imagine as the designers likes to share the Fighters lunch with other classes will find a way for Rangers and Rogues to get this.
I don't think it is useless for fighter. Also, maybe fighters should opt for different weapons. Does sound cool if different weapons are optimal for different classes.

Your 5E math looks wrong.

Assuming say, 18 STR,

1h used 1h is 1d8+4
1h used 2H is 1d8+5
2 used 2h is 2d6+4
There is no fourth situation. Why have you got four situations for 5E?
1 handed with 16str at 1st
1 handed with 18 str at 20th
2 handed with 16str at 1st
2 handed with 18 str at 20th

to be fair most 4e characters will have a 20 stat by 20th and most 3e one will have higher...

few thing that should be implemented.

STR based weapon need a damage die higher than DEX based.
Versatile is not a property, it's next to useless.

2Handed weapon needs two damage die steps vs one handed.
heavy adds one more damage step.

I.E.
rapier, finesse, 1d8 damage
longsword, 1d10 damage(V d12)
claymore, 2Handed, 2d6 damage
greatsword, 2Handed, Heavy, 2d8 damage.

While I genearally agree, versatile got an upgrade with the new grapple rules.

Fighting woth a versatile weapon allows you to fight with 2 hands, grab someone and still attack with 1 hand thereafter.

I do still think, that maybe versatile should increase damage by 2 steps.

So a waraxe does 1d8/1d12 damage. A great axe should have 2d6 damage or even 2d8 and a different nice mastery option.

versatile is basically; you decided to fight with a one-handed weapon but you forgot your offhand weapon or a shield, so have something so you do not feel like an idiot.

Yes. But now you can grapple with your offhand and still attack amd benefit from the bigger damage die if you have noone grappled.

Edit: for 2014 it felt that way... even worse... if you had duelling fighting style and you used the sword two handed, you actually lost damage... I hope that changes...

mostly useless, with some usage if you cannot get a shield in time.

do not compare it's utility with finesse.

Finesse is inherently useless. Str is stronger. So for a str based fighter, finesse does not bring anything to the table.

I know dex overpowered yadda yadda. No. I don't think that is generally true.

@laugh comment: I know that I a the minority who thinks that. But noone could give me a convincing reason why dex is better for melee fighters. And all the reasons I got were tainted by a very narrow look at the game.
