D&D (2024) New One D&D Weapons Table Shows 'Mastery' Traits

The weapons table from the upcoming Unearthed Arcana playtest for One D&D has made its way onto the internet via Indestructoboy on Twitter, and reveals some new mechanics. The mastery traits include Nick, Slow, Puncture, Flex, Cleave, Topple, Graze, and Push. These traits are accessible by the warrior classes.

In fact, there's a better case to be made for no-damage-on-a-hit than DoaM. Consider a hypothetical where you're trying to punch me in the face. There's four possible outcomes: 1 - you miss outright, 2 - I block your punch somehow, 3 - you hit me but don't hurt me, or 4 - you hit me and do hurt me. 1 is clearly a miss, 4 is clearly a hit. In my view 3 is also a hit but for no damage. 2 is the messy one; there I'd call it a hit only if the block somehow hurt me and a miss if it didn't. In any case, you can't damage me without first hitting me.
you missed a big one... your fighting a much better fighter that every time you dodge or block it is taking more and more out of you just to get out of the way... wearing you down.

Otherwise hypothetically I could miss someone to death, which somehow seems a bit ludicrous.
nope... you keep dodgeing and weaving and blocking then pass out from exhaustion trying to keep up with the faster stronger better trained warrior... odds of you being able to dodge and block until then are slim, but so too is a fight where the miss damage brings you to 0

But I would add that damage on a miss has no effect on a target that has a cover. Then you just hit cover.

it varied from effect to effect. sometimes it was just half damage, sometimes it meant the power wasn't consumed, sometimes it was just a partial version of the hit rider, sometimes it was half-or-full ability modifier - it depended on if the power was at will and what it did. generally though if it was an encounter or daily and the miss rider only involved damage it'd be half damage.
the most common was dailys that did miss half damage and mid teir feats that let you add an off stat to a miss if that miss didn't already do damage (like make a str hammer attack, if you miss and would deal 0 damage deal con mod damage.)

Champion is significantly weaker than pretty much any other fighter subclass in terms of damage output, even assuming 8 encounters per adventuring day.
if you multiclass it with halforc barbarian or elven rogue with elven accuracy, both with piercing weapon and piercer feat, then it becomes a good subclass.

Hit points include nonphysical componemnts, including fatigue, not paying attention, and so on.

I have no problem with damage on a "miss".

What I find less easy to make sense of is, why does a greatsword deal miss damage, but not other weapons?
whole table seems random, then again weapon table in 5E is completely random also. no clear pattern in what property is worth what, clearly underpowered and overpowered weapons
