New to D+D. Questions...

Oh. THAT'S what you meant by electronic. That's helpful  sorry about that. I think that I'm gonna try the newer version of it. How much do you have to pay for this?

IIRC I paid $15 (or so) US.

Richard is Canadian so I got the benefit of the conversion of funds.

The reason I like TOS so much is the support that Richard and the others at the site give it.

He is going to release version 8 pretty soon and it promises to be real good (at least teh snapshots of it I've seen are).

You can download the newest version for free also, but it is locked to limit you to a 6th level character. So you can still get a good feel for how it works.

I see Nail's point on the learning curve issue.

It might be a good idea to try it by hand and use the character sheet to check your math.

It is also a multiclass character sheet so you can put in something like 6 different classes (I can't remember how many the limit currently is) for a single character. One sheet fits all users instead of the separate sheet per class that WoTC has.

For some, that's a pretty important selling point.

Lukeee: There's no need to *buy* a computer utility that creates a PC sheet. A paper and pencil work fine; I've been doing it that way (as Player and as DM) for 21 years, and my PCs/NPCs perform well.

That said, once you become far more familiar with the 3.5e rule-set, using a computer program can make parts of the PC creation go much faster. Just some parts, mind you; you still have to look up all of the potential options (feats, skills, spells, equipment, etc...) and make some decisions. An automated PC sheet ain't gonna help you wit' that.

Ok then, but only because you said something about playing for 21 years as a DM and player. I've been looking over the PHB and my knowledge of the game is getting expanded quickly. Probably almost all the questions I brought up were right there.

But I still can't find a sheet that supports multiclass. Just 3.5 revised and that's four pages long. My parents will kill me if I print something (that isn't a school report or whatever) that is four pages long especially with the decorations on that sheet (The small things that make the sheet a LOT more attractive).

Does anyone know where I could find one of those? I liked the outline of the Only Character Sheet, but I do think that I should handwrite it. Once I get to 6th level as a Paladin I plan to take on a prestige class and (try to) begin to write my own adventures. I would rather not be a DM, though, because I do enjoy playing as a character that can grow. That way I have goals to acheive. Maybe writing adventures and posting them on the internet? I don't know, but I'm DEFINATLEY telling Jake about this site. The premade adventures will help our group until Jake is ready to start writing his own.

So does anyone have the a character sheet that's multiclass then? I can't use 3.5 revised, that's not an option.

Hey I've been playing (and DMing) since I was 17 (and I'm 48+ now) too.

I'll up Nail some too - check out http://www.birthright.net/

That is the site for the Birthright setting (the last D&D setting that TSR produced before collapsing and getting bought {and saved} by WotC). Settings are basically worlds that the game is placed in. The default setting is Greyhawk. The only "actively supported" settings by WotC are Forgotten Realms and Eberron. You don't really need to deal much with a setting in the beginning and I wouldn't until later.

But pen and paper is real good. I usually take a plain sheet of paper and start with my ability scores, then race, then class, then I assign feats, and then skill points. Finally I end with equipment.

After I've messed with my erasing and "fixing" I put it down on a character sheet. I do use TOS for my final (and maintaining) sheet. I have found that it does "catch" things I've missed (you won't believe how many bonuses you can get for skill synergy and feats).

Starting layout:

Ability
scores Modifier

Str (mod)
Dex (mod)
Con (mod)
Int (mod)
Wis (mod)
Cha (mod)

This helps me get a feel for where things should fit best for the type of character I'm creating.

I don't have permission to download off of that site. Could you give me a file for a multiclass character sheet that I could print please?
