New to D+D. Questions...

Yep. All you need to take a feat (apart from a feat slot to put it in) is to meet the prerequsites. I don't think there are any feats in CWar (or elsewhere for that matter) that have a PrC as a prerequisite.

glass.

K thanks

One side is the stats for the minis game and the other side is the RPG stats.

You don't have to use the RPG stats on the minis cards if you're playing the RPG. Those stats are just a way for players (or DMs) to have a quick set of stats, if needed.

You can create your own character, using the character creation rules in the PHB and the DMG, and your character doesn't have to have the same stats as the card for a particular miniature. There are several different methods that you can use for creating your character (rolling dice for the ability scores, or "buying" the scores using a "Point Buy" system); talk to your DM to see which way he wants you to use.

Starting a character at a level higher than 1st level is, again, something that your DM should decide on (and, if he's going to let you start at a higher level, he should let the other players do the same).

Since you guys are just starting out, I'd highly suggest you start with 1st level characters...yes, they're more fragile, but it'll be easier to learn the game when you're starting out with fewer variables.

Do I really need the monster manual to play? Because that would mean another week of waiting.

Well, your DM should really have one, though, if you guys have a bunch of minis with the stat cards, those stats may be enough for the DM to run the "bad guys".

(And, yes, your old avatar was the symbol of Bane...your new one is the symbol of Gond. The symbol for Heironeous is here: http://www.wizards.com/dnd/images/dd_gallery/dd1/Heironeous_symbol.jpg )

Ok thanks. That's about all I need to know for now.

All right. I got all that. Double sided stat cards come with the miniatures. One side is the stats for the minis game and the other side is the RPG stats. Maybe I am going too advanced and I've never even played the game yet. I'm not gonna touch prestige classes for a while. Do I really need the monster manual to play? Because that would mean another week of waiting.

Players really only need access to the PHB at the beginning. The "group" needs to have access to:

PHB
DMG
MM

Read the PHB pg 5.

In fact read pages 4-6 then go and read them again.

Then read Chap 1, then read it again.

If you only read the information once you are more likely to miss something that a second reading will provide.

The SRD link I provided earlier has a lot of the information you need, but not all.

Also talk to the other players (and DM) about questions. It is important that you all have the same understanding of the rules to avoid drastic surprises that will ruin the "fun" of the game.

If some portion of the rules really confuses you, ignore it while you grasp the basics of play. Prestige classes have nothing to do with low-level games, anyhow, since the vast majority of them cannot be entered until after level 5 (and that's deliberate.) If you're starting from level 1, you have plenty of time to learn.

Ok then. MUCH more than a week but it will all be worth it. To tell the truth, I have the best understanding of the game. I still left some things out, but the basic concept I have. My character sheet is the only one filled out, and I'm the only one who (generally) knows the PHB.
You're very right about reading it over again. It will be a drag, but it will help. We don't have the same understanding of the game. Jake only knows the DM guide, Matt knows NOTHING and Lenny knows less than Matt.

This may take longer than I thought. It would be easier to just buy all the core rulebooks at once.

And the SRD link? It's all in the core rulebooks, just easier to use.

So I can become a Paladin and take up a prestige class AND still be able to get my Paladin level up?

It is best for new players to start out with an expierenced DM, but if you are all starting out together...well, I suppose you might be in for some laughs at least! :D

And to answer your newest question: yes. If you started out as a paladin, switched to a prestige class, you can still switch back to levels of paladin. There are a few exceptions but...no need to get overly complicated.

For example, if my PC started with 5 levels of barbarian, and then I took 5 levels of Frenzied Berserker, I would be a 10th level PC with 5 levels of barbarian and 5 levels of Frenzied Berserker. Next, say, I wanted to continue on the path of barbarian, I could take another 5 levels of barbarian, so now I would be 15th level, with 5 levels of frenzied berserker and 10 of barbarian.

EDIT: Check out this link for a little more on Prestige Classes.

No you can't. Some PrCs specifically say paladins (and/or monks) can continue gain levels in their original class, but most don't.

Quite true, but barbarians don't have the multiclassing restriction that paladins and monks do.
