New Voltron

Ok, so there was a new Voltron cartoon on tonight. It was OK... I wont spoik too much but it begins with Voltron being outlawed...

I was not impressed by the animation (I didn't hate it...but close)
I thought the story was passable.
The 3 new characters did not totaly p me off...

all in all I would rate it 4 out of 10

I did like those bracers...and Keith duil weilding blazing swords...

I tried watching it. I thought it was terrible.

Nicktoons also produces that Speed Racer: The Next Generation cartoon, don't they? Did they spend all their money licensing these anime only to find that they didn't have enough left over to actually animate them? :erm:

so i just watched the first three episodes on nicktoon's website.

I have to say, watching the first episode i was ready to turn it off and never look back. But I decided to continue watching the remaining episodes since the first one-two episodes of any new show are usually busy trying to set everything up.

By the third episode, i'll admit it got a little better.. but, not by much. and by better i mean, it got to some of the core tropes that i would expect to find in a voltron series. though one thing remained consistent: of the new recruits, the leader of the new recruits really really really really irritated me, and the other two were only slightly tolerable because they were not forced into stereotypical characters.

i may watch future episodes if i just want it on for noise in the background while i do something else, but, yeah, definitely not something that i would go out of my way to watch or something that i am in any way going to try and pay attention to and/or follow closely.... of course, i am not the target audience.

After watching the first couple of episodes, I actually liked it. It's now set to series record.

Thought I must say, the one thing I am most disappointed in is the music.

I have to agree, Deset, that music leaves much to be desired. I thought the 'space kid-ettes' would, as usual, ruin the series, but aside from the one guy's link to Alura's father, they've done a good job of making them tolerable. They make mistakes, they make up for them and they are a bit like kids.

One problem, is they way they 'draw' Pidge makes me think of Mandark from Dexter's Lab. Having the new head of the Earth Alliance (at least security) being voiced by the original narrator (English Version) is a very nice touch. So is not simply tossing aside the original series, but setting this afterwards, as a "So what did they do after that?" sort of set up. Now if we avoid the Vehicle Voltron showing up, they might get somewhere.

Coolest part was during the first 'Form Voltron' moment, when the unnecessarily over the top (yet trade mark) roaring of the feet and hands was left in.

Well, he is supposed to be the nerd of the team. Both the animation and character design of the new series took me a little while to get used to. I don't think that they're as good as the original, but I'm willing to admit I have my rose colored glasses on for that (I strongly prefer actual hand animation to all the computer-assisted stuff you see today).

Actually, the original was the amazing Peter Cullen, while the new guy is Gary Chalk. It's an easy mistake to make, though, as much of Chalk's career consists of doing a Peter Cullen impression (he's done Optimus Prime in number of the Transformers series). I had to check IMDB to be 100% sure which one it was.
