newbies guide for Fallout 4

So the Nuka-World power plant, of all places, had a pool table with a full set of pool balls! Also Cabot House. So now both my pool tables (Vault 88 and Jamaica Plain) have full sets along with two pool cues each. I also discovered I had another pool rack in a workbench at one of my settlements, so I'll pop that on the Vault 88 table as well. Yay!

Nope. You just drop them on the floor then open build mode and you can move them. Sometimes it works, sometimes weird stuff happens -- like items stick partway through the surface you want to put them on. When this happens with the pool balls, they sometimes rise to the surface after I've finished in build mode. Other times they just stay phased through the shelf or whatever. (Other times they fall through and onto the floor.)

I had a nice little collection of robot models on display on a desk in Sanctuary. I just went back there and there was a bloody brahmin floating in the room. It appears to have knocked the models all over the place. I can't find some - I suspect they've fallen behind the desk. But it's a desk I can't move or delete in build mode. I may have to use the console.

In other news, Shaun told me to take out the Railroad, but then Z1-14 told me the Brotherhood was poised to attack the Brotherhood. I then worked with Tom and Deacon to take down the Prydwen, and then I worked with the Railroad to take down the Institute! I even convinced Shaun to help me out with the password. I rescued young synth Shaun. I then sent him to Sanctuary, but he hasn't arrived yet.

EDIT: Shaun arrived! Now I can play at being a mother to him. 😛

Also, I looked at the different endings, and it seems like the Railroad ending is the worst in one respect – namely, they don’t end up manning any of the military checkpoints around the Commonwealth.

If you side with the Institute, they will send synths to man the checkpoints. If you go with the Minutemen, they will man the checkpoints and will even have a presence in Diamond City. If you go with the BOS, they will man the checkpoints.

The Railroad just keeps on going like nothing has really changed. 😢

I took a break from playing, but now I'm back, and I'm wondering - now that I've set up Spectacle Island as a Railroad safehouse, is there any way to knowingly send synths to that settlement, or do I just treat it like a Minutemen settlement and populate it with humans (some of whom may actually be synths)?

Synthetic settlers are essentially random.

Well the difficult level below survival on far Harbor using pipe guns is rough. Survical mode is rocket tag, before that they're more tanky.

Level 32 died getting to a rendezvous point.

Didn't settle the commonwealth but are doing far bors 4 settlement
settlements. Short of everything as I didn't bring much with me.

Doing the side quests then will do the main story.

Turns out I was wrong about the Railroad not manning checkpoints! They do.

Also, I think I've finally finished with Nuka-World, so next I will go to Far Harbor.

Hey!

The Fallout series was on sale on steam so I bought a few of them. I'm currently playing Fallout 4 and have comments/questions please note that I am only 4 pages into this thread, so some of my questions might have been answered but I have chores to do and this is faster than going through 300+ posts:

Comments:

The landscape seems empty and boring. Cities are more exciting and dangerous feeling. I haven't been to diamond city, so there's that.

Questions:

-Are there followers that aren't annoying? The dogs footfalls are constant, Preston and the robot guy are annoying and judgy.

- Is there a way to remove mods from items and put them on something else? If I scrap them, I get mostly common stuff (not screws or adhesive which seems to be the least available stuff). If I re-modify them, the old modifications seem to go into my inventory but I can't figure out how to put them on new items.

-When scrapping things on PC, is there a quick way to do that? I've been collecting stuff and then, when I get back to a base, drop it on the ground and scrap it all. It's annoying and slow.

-Is there a reason to not always wear power armour? you get it fairly early. I guess it's bad for stealth builds?

The area around your starting point is intended to ease you into things, so the density of encounters is fairly low. Still, there are a variety of nearby farmsteads, stores and small towns.

Each of them have their likes and dislikes (aside from the dog). The fact that Codsworth dislikes collecting junk, which is, like, 40% of the gameplay, always ruled him out for me as a companion.

There are a couple of companion characters in Diamond City who can be good company. My favourite is Curie, she's a little harder to find.

Mods can only go back on to weapons of the same base type as they were removed from. If you remove a scope from a Hunting Rifle, you can only attach it to another Hunting Rifle. If you have a mod available in your inventory or workbench when modifying an item, then when you scroll down to that mod in the menu, the default action will be Attach rather than Build.

You don't need to break down junk items. When accessing the workbench or any crafting station in a settlement, you can store all junk items in it (there's even a quick-key to dump them all) and then, when you're crafting, any junk items containing the materials needed will be broken down automatically, and any remaining unused materials will be stored.

Power armour is powered by fusion cores. In the early game it's possible to burn through cores faster than you can find new ones.

Also power armour overrides the stats of any clothing or non-powered armour your character is wearing, effectively causing them to become inactive. This isn't so bad for raw defensive capabilities, but many items of clothing provide stat bonuses (like Agility for military fatigues, or Charisma for a tuxedo) that are also removed when in power armour. It's not uncommon for players to carry around entire spare outfits specifically for the bonuses they'll get in social interactions.

This becomes even more an issue once you start picking up armour pieces with Legendary effects. You can be getting huge cumulative bonuses to mutliple abilities, boosts to movement speed, better Action Point regen and a variety of other effects, all of which are lost the moment you don your power armour.

Also you clank around in it, which I find more annoying than some skittering dog footsteps.

My reaction after watching the show was let me redownload it and start it again but then

-Preston
-graphically it’s better than fallout 3 and you can do more but it’s a boring wasteland and the story isn’t that great compared to fallout 3 which isn’t as good as new Vegas. My best f4 memories pale to the super duper mart in f3
-the ending or what is the story ending is one of my least favorite in video games
-dlc is good but unlike Skyrim it’s not incorporated into the world (the robot stuff is)
-house building starts off good but if you talk to Preston it’s awful
How does Preston make building bad??

And if you dismiss Preston then you can just ignore you ever met him, right?
