No 4th ed D&D computer game...why? :(

When 3rd ed game out, Pools of Radiance2 was eager to tell us it was "the first computer game ot use 2rd ed rules!"
Likewise, didn't previous games do that for 2nd ed, hm? (Pools of Darkness?)

Soooooo....where's the 4th ed D&D computer game? *crickets chirp*

What has happened, that 4th ed, another major milestone in D&D's life, has no computer game to show it off?

I'm still playing Tmeple of Elemental Evil, for pity's sake, as the last, best D&D game!!! That's over 4years old!! It was a superb game, just let down by Atari (again).
(Don't mention D&D Online, ick)
Neverwinter Nights2 is the last D&D game made, and while good, it's still not turn based, as many of us want. It has sold very well, the market is there for such games.

As, alas, a perpetual DM, I want my fix of D&D goodness, so I have to rely on computer games. So I'm miffed, however, the fact that I haven't heard of ANY new D&D computer games in a while, is scary....what is going on?
Is it due to Atari being in the pits, but still refusing to give up or pass on the D&D license?

I know a huge amount of us geeky nerd-types :p own, run, work in etc computer games companies, and thus plenty of folk I'm sure want to work on and make D&D games.
Go check the art work that's out there, for example (seen some jaw dropping fantasy art Zbrush work)

So, what gives? Why no 4th ed heralding game? :/

Have patience. Pool of Radiance came out more than a year after 3e did, and it was the first for 3e.

It takes a while for computer games to be developed.

*cue "but World of Warcraft IS the D&D 4th Edition herald game"*

Seriously, maybe they don't have a computer game so that people actually play the PnP game instead of the Comp one?

AR

Keterys pretty much nailed it I think, we don't even have the game in book format yet and it's kind of difficult to start development until that happens ;)

I expect some of the "4e is WoW" crowd might tell you to go play WoW or some other MMO though. ;)

Snarky answer: 4Ed is a video game. ;)

Real answer: There probably is one in the works, but isn't due to be released for a while because of issues with:

1) Licensing

2) Plotline (given the points of light thing)

3) A bit of waiting around until a few more options in the game are revealed- say, after the next wave or 2 of PHBs etc. get released, in order to maximize the computer game's flexibility.

IOW, patience...you will eventually be rewarded!

Maybe because PoR2 was.. junk?

While a turn based 4e dnd game would be cool I think producers would much much much rather publish an action game that can easily be played on a 360 or a ps3. They want money.

Pool of Radiance: Ruins of Myth Drannor was one of the buggiest games ever released. It made the initial release of Daggerfall seem highly playable. It might have become a good game once fully patched up, but I uninstalled it as soon as the patch came out fixing the uninstall bug that wiped hard drives. I'm sure 4E will get a videogame soon enough.
