NorCal Game Day II. January 31st 2004 at Gamer's Keepe in Vacaville?

Glad you made it over to this thread, takyris! Your ideas sound good.

As for holding it in a gameshop, well, a couple reasons come to mind.

1 - Neutral ground. No one has to bring a dozen or so people they only know from the internet into their home. :)

2 - It's a good way to make ties with local gamestores.

Of course, if someone has a bunch of empty office space to offer up, I'll play there! :)

I have to bow out of a Game Day outside of the Sacramento Area. Sorry folks. But the show will go on! Have fun and good luck.

Well, keep your eye on the thread, at least, mistergone, just in case GameDay ends up being in Sactown again. :)

So, what's the ettiquette for signing up to run games? I'm assuming that theres' some hypothetical day we can all meet, say, sometime in January (just assuming that with the holidays, December will end up not working for a lot of people). What seems to be the usual bottleneck, coming up with enough players or coming up with enough GMs?

For my own part, I'd love to have a chance to play, but assuming that we have a morning session and an afternoon session, I'd be up for GMing in one and playing in one.

And assuming that GMing isn't the bottleneck and there's room for me, I'd probably go with d20 Modern, in one of three types of one-shot:

1) Pregenerated murder mystery-type deal
2) Action Movie Cliche with Mystic Overtones ("Yeah, for some reason, we've got to take all the baddest warriors the world has ever seen and ship you to this island where guns are illegal and deadly combat tournaments take place every day...")
3) A tongue-in-cheek action adventure done in pulp style, with rayguns and atomic lasers and stuff like that.

with a possible 4) Something else, if everyone here thinks those are all terrible ideas that won't attract anyone.

I really like #'s 2 and 3, takyris.

Judging by the failed attempt at the Nov. 8th Gameday, it's players we couldn't come up with. I think we had 4 GM's, and no non-GM players. :p

Cool -- those were the ones I was leaning toward, since (1) involved a lot of ninjanoting.

And really, I'd be GREAT with just playing, if it's players we're short on. It's been, well, approximately forever since I've gotten to play.

Will feel my local dudes out tomorrow, see if they have suggestions for a Bay Area meeting place. Am up for Bay Area and Sacramento as a mix. Any particular questions I ought to ask? They're Fremont locals, so they might know other places to game that I've overlooked... They might also be up for gaming with someone other than me as the GM for a change. :)

I recently moved out of the Bay Area (lost my job, and that area is waaaay too expensive if you are out of work). I currently live in Chico, which is about 2 hours drive north of Sacto. I'd love to come to a game day in Sacto, and I could possibly make it to one in the SF area (though that's a very long drive...)

If you are looking for a friendly game store in the bay area, I recommend Gator Games in San Mateo. Here is their website... http://www.gatorgames.com/ Jean is the store owner, and they have events all the time. The larger ones they hold at local pizza parlors. Many of the restaurants around there are very happy to allow a bunch of gamers to use the place as long as the noise stays below a roar and most people buy food. When I lived down there, half the time we actually gamed at the restaurants, and some weeks we had 3 games going at once with at least 15-20 people total.

PS: I'm not much of a celebrity, not like the people that went to the gameday on the 8th, but my art has appeared in 5 rpg products so far, and will be in 3 more books and pdfs on the way... and I'm happy to sign autographs. LOL :)

Excellent! A couple of new people drifting into the thread. Cool. Venue is still way open. I need a date, though, before I can call anyone. Samuri, I know Jean and Gator Games and the pizza parlors. She's a great lady, but I'm afraid we'd have to compete with CCGs and the store's not really a great place for table-top gaming. As to running in a restaurant, possible, but 12 hours monopolizing a good deal of their space might be pushing it. And takyris, I'd prefer a game shop fror the reasons garyh mentioned plus I'm looking for eventual sponsorships of our little event. Also, your d20 Modern would be great. I just hope someone will come forward with some good ol' (A)D&D or new D&D, for that matter. It would be a shame to have a Game Day without at least one game of the FRP standard.

Mistergone, whassup? Transportation woes? If we run in Fremont or Santa Cruz or Sonora or..., I'm sure you could catch a ride with another Sacto local. If it's not getting there that would stop you, may I ask what the impediment would be? Maybe we can help you through it.

OK, I guess that's it for now. Like I said though, a date needs to be set bfore I start scoping locations. Oh, one other thing. I mentioned before that I have the HackMaster tournament adventure in hand. I now have the prizes Kenzer & Company furnished and there's a lot of cool stuff. They're really only sutable for the tournament, though. It would be nice to have some kewl swag for the other tables too. OK, hasta babies.

If this is a one-time thing, I will run a game. 3.5e. What do I need to do? Unavailable for Thanksgiving, otherwise Weekends are FINE. I am in Sac-Town. Is that a problem? I can drive, but not ridiculous distances.

Welcome, ciaran00! :D We're planning to have quarterly meets for the NorCal Game Day, 4x/year. We're a little behind on this one, but we're still in our infancy as a one-day event. D&D3.5 would be great! That would give us six tabes in two sessions consisting of Mutants & Monsters, Savage Worlds, d20 Modern, two sessions of HackMaster and your 3.5 if everyone sticks to their plans.

As to days and dates, I have little feedback yet except what's passed, but Thanksgiving is certainly out of the question. There was one mention of early next year but I'd really like to pull off NCGDII before then. Guys (and gals)?
