Ohio GameDay IV planning

I guess I am part of the 'Dayton Crew' but the only other person I have met around here is Enkhidu.

Maybe the Dayton Crew should plan an informal preliminary meeting where I get to meet everyone, such as the elusive Fett!

If there was a bounty on your head, you'd see me. :D

I really didn't know I was that elusive!

Basically, the games run are what people want to run and that people have interest in playing in. Paranoia and Call of Chuthulu are great one shot games, so we see them. D&D everyone knows so we usually see that. If people wqanted to do RPGA events there and people would play, then that would be fine.

Library?

My suburb of Columbus (town of Grove City) has a library with a meeting room in the basement that can hold 25-30 gamers with tables. It is free for non-profits or 25 dollars if you are a business, so I guess it's free for us.

A couple of issues (not sure how major they are to you guys)

-If we do it on a Saturday we can have it all day, but that is 9:30-6:00, so not a late game fest.
-It is in the basement so it will be o.k. to talk but I am sure if there is mass screaming or yelling it might get us kicked out.
-There is no food/drink allowed in the room, or the library I would guess. I am not sure how well this is monitored but I would guess we will be eating in the parking lot or at one of the restaraunts down the street. This isn't too big of a deal for me as I would probably sneak a water bottle in but I know how some people to eat/drink while they game.

I don't really know much about event planning, and I know this might not sound like an ideal situation, but I tried several of the event halls that I could think of and they were not cheap, not cheap at all. I am going to keep looking, just wanted to mention this as an option.

Glad to see we are getting some progress here. I also think Columbus would be central, so my questions below will focus on that area. I will travel to support this if it is in another city and provided it is on a date I can make.

A few questions for the Dayton Crew.

Where was the venue?
In Riverside just east of Dayton. Easy to get to from US 35, which is easy to get to from both I675 and I75.

Did it cost anything? If so, did you charge a fee at the door?

For the number of people we were expecting and the size of room there was a deposit fee that was nominal enough that no money would have been charged.

What time was the event for? Would you have games running all day? Did it start early in the morning? Run late?

I think we had planned it from about 10:00 AM to whenever. It was pretty loose since we weren't expecting many people anyway.

Questions for all.

If we can get a venue, and it isn't free, would you be willing to throw out some money? Nothing huge, in fact no more that let's say 10 bucks.

Yes

If it is in Columbus, are we talking about on a saturday?

We would be talking about a Saturday no matter what the venue.

What kind of games would you like to see? I am envisioning D&D, maybe a couple of RPGA events, maybe a minis tournament, and various other games. What do you all think?

Any game would be acceptable with an emphasis on D20. If you look a the link for the first Gameday we had D&D 3.0, D20 Modern, Paranoia. If I recall someone even wanted to run a Mech game, but didn't due to lack of interest.

Time frame here is too restrictive in my opinion. It would need to run from 9:30/10:00 AM until about 11:00PM/12:00AM. Anything less wouldn't be worth the trip.

Man Keeper, Why you gotta do me like that. Enk introduced us for like 3 seconds at the bookery one time and I replied to some of your threads at NTL that one time when I was still allowed there :D .

I have friends at the place you work even.

That was the reaction I expected from the commuters. I'll keep looking, we'll find something.
