[Chuckle] Sounds like a good solution to me. Seriously, I'd go with it, though I guess it depends on how exactly different creatures get along in that campaign world. Or, if that's not an option (drat 'n bother) talk to the DM about it, and point out that the NPC is making the game less enjoyable for everyone except him, and maybe the fighter. If that doesn't do the trick, eat him anyway.
