No vote. I'm somewhat amazed how popular Marshal is, though.
The class is popular among owners of the MH, even though everyone pretty much agrees the class got short-changed a little on combat utility. I suspect much of what you're seeing is the revenge of the Marshal fans here.

I have to admit, part of me wishes the class was called "Warduke" -- lots of oldskool flavor, and nobody knows what the heck a warduke even is, so it doesn't have the inherent baggage of warlord.

They should bring back 1E level titles, and have characters work up from "warserf" to "waremperor," with "warlord" and "warduke" as stops along the way.

Still prefer Commander (poor Commander gets no poll!) but I'm good with Marshal (fan of the 3E class) and resigned to Warlord (seems inevitable at this point).

As stated in other threads, "marshal" has a lot of the right connotations.

As a noun, t's fairly open in terms of rank or branch of service. A marshal can be a high-ranking military officer in charge of batalians, or a lowly civilain heading up a handful of militia.

As a verb, it relates a sense of leadership through inspiration, insight, and encouragement rather than autocracy.

What's wrong with Armiger or Battlemaster?
Armiger means a guy who carries other people's weapons. It is literally the caddy for the golfbag of weapons. It was bad in Iron Heroes (absolute proof that despite his talents at design, Mearls is no good at names), and it would be worse for a leadership class.

Battlemaster is just boring, cheesy, and not specifc.

I voted warlord, just because I don't think Marshal is any better, and I am getting sick of this warlord-denouncement trend.

Either Commander or just Lord are about the only alternatives I would accept, myself.

I still voted warlord. Marshal sounds too "goody-two-shoes". There are evil warlords out there, but evil marshals?
Why not? In addition to being the name of a law-enforcing organization in the US (US Marshals), it is also a military rank (an army marshal toppled the Brazilian Empire in 1889 and instituted a republic).
