D&D 5E (2014) [OOC] Uller's Out of the Abyss

Maybe. I could have sworn it failed with 5 earlier for me. Maybe not. I think for this next turn I'll experiment with my own die roller thread and use it anytime I have more than a few rolls to make and just link the posts. The main thing is I want to be able to make one IC post for the monsters then one IC post for the NPCs. If I am able to construct them a little at a time it let's me work on them when I have 10 or 20 minutes rather than wait until i have an hour plus...

Rolls could be in the OOC thread, or in their own thread. If you feel they make a post unreadable, you could place spoiler tags on them so they are hidden until one presses the button (on the desktop version of Enworld, anyway).

Are any of the spiders within range of the upstairs heavy crossbow?

And are Evandur and Ront visible? I'm trying to come up with a way to help them from here. Like: if I aimed the crossbow near them and fired with a bolt tied to a rope, then someone else hauled it back up, would the barbs on the bolt be able to tear through and do some damage to the webs as it was hauled back up? (I'm not expecting the piercing dmg from the actual shot to do anything.)

Spiders, Evandur and Ront are all visible and in range. The webs are immune to bludgeoning, resistant to piercing and vulnerable to fire and slashing. For your plan I'd consider pulling it back a dex based attack dealing 2d4 slashing damage...you gotta try to get a critical cord near ront.

FYI Evandur appears to be trying to make himself and Ront fall.

Did you decide not to do this did you just decide that the best way to help was kill/distract one of the spiders? I was expecting you to ask for help tying a rope to a bolt and loading it. I don't care if you decide to do that somewhat retroactively since what Erevan and Ezraen are doing doesn't rely at all on what is happening outside. Just let me know if I misread your action.

I weighed both options and decided that attempting to kill a spider was the most beneficial move for the party as a whole. Ront took so much damage I don't even know if he's alive. Evandur is likely to die as well. Attempting to kill a spider helps them, and the rest of us as well, since I suspect we're all going to be tumbling over this ledge soon...

Okay. I just wanted to make sure I didn't miss something.

Yeah...it is unclear to anyone if Ront is still alive at this point. If Evandur can tell he is a little too busy to communicate that to anyone.

Brave elves! Hope there's nothing too awful up there... O_O;;

The last post got me thinking about madness checks. I was thinking that this is an interesting instance where PbP might actually have an edge over in-person play: madness checks could be rolled secretly in PMs, only to the affected player(s). This would be hard to conceal at a table, but on the boards, we'll have to work out who's losing it solely by their behavior. Might add to the fear & intrigue...

Just a thought. :)
