D&D 5E (2014) [OOC] Uller's Out of the Abyss

Ok, I will tell Surana and Erevan that it will be a constant struggle for Topsy and Turvy, so we need to find the cure soon.

As for the others, I don't know. Ezraen would think that honesty would be best in the long run, but there are too many factors for mutiny. Some may think practical and want to kill them already, to save on food and future hassle, which I don't think that he is prepared for. A lot of him wanting to help them is that they are prime subjects for Lathander's redemption, but no one else likely shares that belief, aside from maybe Surana and Erevan.

My guesses about how everyone would react to the truth:

Will side with us:
Derendil (kind, noble, plus he's my bud)
Drum (my bud)
Orsik (LG pious dude)
Klep (he specifically said he liked "the smurfs" and wanted to bring them along)

Will stay neutral:
Shuushar

Will be skeptical, possibly side against us if the truly opposed are vociferous enough:
Eldeth (she seems kind but also rough and practical)
Bert (see his comments during the fight)
Jimjar (doesn't seem to like them much, but also not a total jerk)

Will strongly, possibly violently, disagree:
Sarith (obviously only cares about himself)

I have no idea:
Buppido (might side with Sarith, might just giggle and say it's "all part of the plan"--who knows)

I like our odds. If we lie and they find out the wrong way (a transformation at an inopportune time), it could really blow up in our faces.

I say we take advantage of the fact that we got out of the fight unscathed. Tell the truth, and that we plan to help them, subduing them if/when it becomes necessary--and point out that we were just able to do it without so much as a scratch.

If we have to fight some NPCs over this, I'm willing to.

I'm still open to lying, too. If you guys have any ideas for lies that might work, let's hear them. I just had trouble coming up with anything. If the gnomes weren't tied up, lying would be much easier to get away with. Kinda feel like we have to choose between truth & tied up vs. lies & untied. Of those two, I prefer the truth, but am totally open to being swayed otherwise.

Also, it occurred to me that Jimjar might already know. Remember that when the twins first arrived, he was happy to see other deep gnomes, but then they quickly got in a fight in gnomish & then avoided each other from then on? Might be because of this.

I still think it's our best bet anyway. If the twins transform when nobody's expecting it, or if they disappear again and then return as wererats to attack us, we may not even be able to stop the rest of the party from killing them. If everyone knows, the kinder members of the party will be prepared to help out or stand back when the sh*t hits the fan (which it almost certainly will).

If we do tell the truth, hopefully your high charisma will help sway anyone who's on the fence.

Personally I would want to know whether Topsy and Turvy know when this stuff happens. As far as I know, lycanthropy is associated with full moon, but we're underground. I guess they have never even seen the moon. If their transformation happens once a month (1 or 2 nights), we can predict it and tie them up when the time comes.

I guess what I'm saying is, get more info before deciding to tell the others anything (although it mightbe too late for that; not sure if we're back to camp already).

It's not too late; no one's written anything IC. Thing is, we were about to head back to the main party with Topsy and Turvy beat up, unconscious, and tied up. We have to say *something* to explain that.

We still have the option of untying them, healing them right where we are (Ez's Lay on Hands), and keeping all this a secret...but that would require us to convince the gnomes to come with us willingly. (Because if they're tied up, the party will want an explanation.) They may just run off as soon as they're awake. I'd be ok with trying this, though; it would probably go a good way toward getting the gnomes to trust us (instead of waking up beat up and tied up).

Gaining their trust sounds good, if only to figure out how we can avoid nasty business like this in the future. But then, what do we say about the gnomes being knocked out? We got attacked by something? The drow would want to know by what.

Come to think of it, we can say it was one of those vrock demons. That makes sense, and emphasizes our urgency in getting away from Velkynvelve.
