D&D 5E [OOC] Uller's Out of the Abyss

I'm going to need a marching order and any precautions you are taking against falling. The ledge right now is 10' wide but it will quickly drop to 5' or less. Derendil is a proficient climber ("In my current form...") and suggests those most likely to have trouble be tied to him so he can help them if they fall. You also could somehow tie ropes to the wall above you and use that to anchor you but that would make the going very slow.

There are 11 of us now, and we have multiple ropes

Edit: Ugh, got a text and this got posted by mistake. Anyway...

Could we just proceed normally (a 5' ledge doesn't sound hard to walk on?) until we get a description of a particular challenge? Like, if there was a stretch where the ledge was just a few inches, the best climber could traverse it carrying one end of a rope, which the others could then use to help them across...or whatever.

I guess I'm just not sure what precautions to take without more specific knowledge of the challenges/DCs/etc.

There are lots of dangers that can come upon you quickly that you might want to prepare for:

- ambush by flying or climbing creatures.
- rock slide from above
- collapsing path from below

You won't have time to decide what you want to do once those things happen (if they happen).

There is not much that we can prepare for with the ambush from above and the rockslide except for keeping an eye out, and the collapsing path is about as much of a crap shoot. If we tie ourselves together, we are one bad roll away from losing the party.

I think that we should stay somewhat close together, so that we can help the closest person, if they falter, but try to maintain as much mobility as possible. The ones with the worst balance can be lashed to Derendil, but no more than two should be so that he doesn't simply get dragged down.

Time to channel our inner mountain goat! :)

I'd vote for tying Bert & Orsik to Derendil, since they matter the most (food & water!). The rest of us jerks are expendable. ;)

And I agree that tying all of us on one rope would be a bad idea. I was thinking maybe tie together in twos. You, Erevan and I all have Inspiration (got "renewed" at the start of chapter 2) that will be expiring soon anyway. What if we each tied to one NPC? Might be in a position to help them out. Something like:

Surana (do I still need to be by Bert for light, Uller, or is it bright enough in here...?)
Eldeth

Bert
Derendil
Orsik

Shuushar
Erevan

Topsy
Turvy (don't want to tie them to anyone big since if the big falls, they're too small to stop it)

Ezraen
Sarith

Still too crazy? It might be crazy.

Actually that might be okay. Is there a wall on one side, or does the wall fall away, so that there is a narrow path that we are traversing?

There is always a wall to one side. Sometimes it's a rocky slope. Sometimes it is sheer. It winds slowly down like a road descending a mountain pass.

Yes there are switch backs, mostly in the later portion of the trail. I'm not aware of you having pitons. If there were in your gear, then yes.
