Best part of the movie was that the sound quality in the theater was so poor they gave us our money back.

A friend of mine claimed the reason they all turned into balls of light at the end or whatever it was that happened is because the players all fell asleep on their character sheets.

I saw it for free (the studio gave me comps) and I wanted my two hours back. I'm pretty sure that they all grabbed an Orb of Annihilation at the end and were wiped out of existence. Unfortunately, my memories of them remained.

Detect Magic does a lot more than detect magic, but I agree with your point I was just asking if it could cause such things to glow but not to the extent that it duplicates the spell that allows the spell and its college to be identified using an Arcana check.
(And apologies if I didn't make that point clear as I think I did miss that part)

Well, OK, it also reveals what school the magic comes from, if you concentrate for a moment.
