Howdy,

Was wondering if anyone else has tried this or is using this diet, it came recommended from my doctor and just want to what it's like.

Thanks!

Gris.

It worked well for me until I tried to get off the 'induction' portion; the first and most rigorous phase of the diet. Some people have a much higher tolerance for carbs than others; some can increase to several grams of carbs per meal and either continue to lose weight or maintain weight. I'm not one of those people. 20 grams of carbs per day max was the induction phase. I started going out of ketosis and gaining weight at 25 a day :(

So, the diet wasn't a big success for me, since your're not suppossed to stay that low for an extended period of time.

My suggestion: go for a carb-counting diabetic diet. It will allow you to eat a larger range of things, not have to take supplements (which you must take on the Atkins program to remain healthy), and you'll still lose weight. Might not be as fast. but it took a long time to put on that weight and it'll take a long time to take it off.

A friend of mine dropped 40lbs on a diet similar to the Atkins and kept it off, but I think it's important to note that he started working out regularly and has continued to do so even after getting off the diet.

In fact everyone one that I've known that has dieted and lost weight and kept if off has gotten in the habit of working out regularly.

I'm thinking that a good diet is helpful in getting started in losing weight, but that the regular workout is the most important part (and the biggest stumbling I've had to loosing a few pounds myself)

A lot of folks hear about how you get to eat all the steaks, pork chops, and pastrami you want and think that this is some sort of dream diet. What they don't get is that it's the stuff loaded with carbs that make food taste good.

Ever been to one of those Brazilian restaurants that serve all-you-can-eat meat dishes? All kinds of loins and filets and cutlets and what-not. It's a big, expensive induldgence for people with too much money. The fact is, eating all that meat has a very cloying effect, and a lot of folks leave those joints feeling more than a little green.

^^ I agree with alsih2o. It is really easy to lose weight if you just run for 30 minutes a day (its how long you run when you start not how fast) 6 days a week and drink only water or juices (as opposed to sodapops). After 3 weeks you will see visible results assuming you dont like, eat a bus or something. I used to think it was a hard regiment to keep up with but it isnt! The hardest part i would say is keeping yourself from making excuses not to do those two things.
