[OT] NHL Stanley Cup Finals

I am far, far from what anyone could reasonably term a "Hockey Fan". But considering that at this very moment, I am sitting within two miles of where the 'Canes play, I feel obligated to post.

GO CANES!

I never expected them to perform so well during the playoffs and it has been fun to watch some of the games. It has been neat to see all the excitement generated in this area about the team and the game. Especially since just a couple years ago lots of people around here were predicting that the team wouldn't last in this area. Hell, we couldn't even hang on to the Hornets and this area is Basketball Central.

All of that said however, I didn't watch the game last night. I was playing D&D! :D

How's that for bringing things back "on topic"? ;)

The yankees have won so many pennats (sic). If you want to find the yankees in the NHL look to the canadiens. They are the number one team of the ages.

Hey, we have win many Stanley Cup, buts it's not because of the money, but because in the past, Montreal can choose among the French player before the other club.

You go from rooting for the Habs, to cheering on the 'Canes?!? What the %&$#@! is up with that?!? You are a strange bird my friend...and likely to be disappointed yet again this playoff year.

Hey, I'm not a stange bird.... it's just that I hate Hasek, and I dont wont that he win a Stanley Cup. And I respect the Hurricanes. They play well against us. And I wont that the Stanley Cup return in the East. It's not my head that talk, it's my heart. I have tell that before, I'm patriotic :)

Now let see if I will be disapointed....

I have yet to meet an Eastern conference guy that isn't rooting for the Canes right now. Not terribly surprising I suppose.

It's normal I think. They play well and proper. They are determined. And, we have to remember that they beat: Martin Brodeur, Jose Theodore and Curtis Joseph, three of the best goalies of the NHL. It's amazing.

I dont like the Cane's, but I respect them, because they work hard. When they win, it's impress me more then when a bunch of Hall of Fame to be players win.

But I like the Wing, and if Hasek doesnt played for them, I wanted that they wont. But I repeat it: I HATE HASEK !

I would if they didn't play the stupid trap (which doesn't exactly leave a lot of teams nowadays). Now I don't much care.

If the Canadiens are the Yankees, does that mean the Leafs are the Red Sox? (huge fanbase, rivalry with "Yankees", storied franchise, often good but haven't won in the modern era)

The Canes actually play a variant of the infamous left-hand lock (forcing the entire opposition down one side of the ice while your transition game looks to spring a forward down the clear lane)...which I might add was pretty much invented by the Detroit Red Wings in the early to mid 90s.

And BTW it looks official, Trottier will be announced as the new head coach of the Rangers sometime soon. [quakes in fear]

At least July 1st is almost here...Bill Guerin should be pulling on a blueshirt pretty soon afterward...

Minor correction -- it's the left wing lock.

skulrik:
OK, you are not a strange bird. There are players I hate also, and would find in nearly impossible to root for any team they played on, except perhaps my own ;). And, like you, I also respect the Hurricanes hard work and relentless (yet patient) style of play.

Moulin Rogue:
Nah, the Leafs are more like the Chicago White Sox or St. Louis Cardinals of late -- plenty of defense, but they can't win the big games to get over the hump. Also, Montreal's traditional rivals really aren't the Leafs anyhow...that slot is reserved for the Boston Bruins.

One final question: how come nobody responded to my comments that Detroit developed most of this team, and that teams like the Avs, Flyers, and Rangers, have "bought" far more players than the Wings?

Because I never saw it? Sorry, must of missed it.

I don't know a whole lot about Detroit, so I can't comment on that, but it is true that hte Avs have bought a fair amount of their players. In fact, their payroll isn't that far behind Detroits.

Now that I think about it, I haven't kept a close track on the Avs' roster, so I can't quite comment on that topic intelligently.

The Ranger Fan Mantra: "Just you wait til next season..." :) As a Blueshirts fan, I know this statement oh-so-well.

You got one right here! :) I think it's great they are in it...but no way can they pull of the upset.

Thanks for the good luck wishes! And of course I remember the brutal sweep Philly suffered at the hands of my Wings in 1997. It was our first Cup in 42 years...you don't forget things like that.

You and me both Quick. :) It's been a fairly long time since 1974.
