[OT] NHL Stanley Cup Finals

Losing the first game is going to be a blessing to the wings.I garantee you they will not take the canes for granted tomorrow night like they did last night.

They seem to play better when they are a bit more desperate and besides now they can win the cup at home in front of the most loyal hockey fans in the world.

I would also like to mention to those of you who scream about the payroll that all of the wings stars except Robitaille and Hull were obtained either through trades or drafted as rookies.Yzerman,Fedorov and Lidstrom have never played for another team. The wings just don't let there stars get away. And Money isn't everything ask the Rangers they pay more than the wings and they didn't even make the playoffs in the eastern confrence where it is easier to get in.

GO WINGS!!!!

For some more than others Lady Dragon. ;) Though I will say, there's times I wish it was such a cakewalk out here in the East.

hehe, Detroit is not call Hockeytown for nothing :) ...... but it's false.... the more loyal fan, is.... me :p

Seriously, I think that you will be surprise to see the croud at Raleigh. I dont know if this excitment about the Hurricanes will continue in the next seasons, but for now, its incredible. They are so many noise in the arena, that the players have difficulty to communicate on the ice !!

Detroit took the Canes for granted? Even after saying for days that they "know they are a good team" and they "have to play at their best to beat them" and all those other cliches they were bandying about?

What Detroit has to do is play their game, something they didn't do in game 1, mostly because Carolina played their game, and quite effectively.

Oh, and Hasek has to stop flopping around. Yeah, I know, fat chance. Plus, he probably stops more than he lets in doing that. But sometimes I just want to reach through the screen and strangle him...

You go from rooting for the Habs, to cheering on the 'Canes?!? What the %&$#@! is up with that?!? You are a strange bird my friend...and likely to be disappointed yet again this playoff year.

Hey, I'm a Habs fan cheering for the Canes, too. The Canes are a great young team, I liked them before the playoffs started and cheered for them over NJ and the much-hated Leafs, too. Just because the Canes ended up on top against my favorite team doesn't mean I all of a sudden hate them.

OTOH, let's say we're in Bizzaro world, and the Bruins got past the Habs, and they were the ones in the final. I wouldn't only be cheering for Detroit, I'd be screaming for Chelly to leave a bloody trail behind him. But that's just me...

It's official

Agamon, I agree 100%. I don't know that Detroit took the Canes for granted, but they certainly did not play anywhere near their potential. And even then, they barely gave up that win. I still say Detroit in game 5.

From the article linked to by Joshua Dyal:

Kilpatrick spokeswoman Regina Strong said the mayor wasn't confused about the home of the Hurricanes; he was just playing mind games with the good people of Raleigh.

Frankly, that sounds a lot like BS to me. Don't get me wrong, I'm not baggin on Kilpatrick for not knowing that the Canes are based in Raleigh. I don't know jack about Michigan geography and I doubt that Charles Meeker* does either. But I don't buy the "mind games" excuse.

*For the record, I wish Meeker would have made the same gaff in reverse because I think he's a bit of a jackass.

I can't believe you folks are still wittering on about this none event, especially after the USA beat Portugal 3-2 yesterday which puts them in a good chance of getting through to the next round.

I hear the only US media coverage of the match was by a Spanish language TV station.

Just in case you are still completely clueless as to how amazing a win that was for the USA; Portugal lost to France in the Euro 2000 finals, France are the current holders of the World Cup. Portugal are in fact pretty good. USA had the joint worst record in the last France '98.
