[OT] What are Fantasy Card Collecting games

What makes pokemon so fun is a variety of searching cards, and the existence of evolutions and a bench. With evolution cards, you can turn one pokemon into a stronger one(And when you consider the multitude of sets out their, you can really keep someone guessing.), and with a bench, you can have creatures attack those on the bench, and many tactical manuevers require it. Also, it's so fun to watch the look on your opponents face when you hurricane the pokemon he loaded up with 4+ energies, then sabrina's gaze him. Not that energy cycling a dark energy to a non-dark pokemon isn't fun either.

May as well be speaking Greek...

I haven't had much to do with Warlord, but from what I can tell, if you know the d20 system mechanics, there really isn't much else to learn about Warlord. AC seems to start at 10 and go up; the classes are nearly identical; attack bonus and saving throws work the same way, and I think they have feats now too.

Well, to put this in terms that a magic-player can understand, powering up a pokemon is done in energy cards, which only one of which can be attached a turn, and sending a pokemon back to the opponents hand takes the energy with it. Sabrina's Gaze shuffles their hand into their deck and makes them draw a new one(While doing the same thing to you), ridding them of their evolution. Dark energy can't be explained to you, as your game has no concept of hit points.

Of course, if you are interested in getting into CCGs, dont worry about which one is designated the "best" by its loyal group of supporters. Just play the one that your friends are playing. Over the years, I've seen tons of card games come and go, and tons of play groups form and dissolve. The one common factor for a good time? Playing with a group of people you like.

If you dont have friends who want to play CCGs, then you might go down to the local card shop and watch whatever they are playing (most likely Magic) to see if you are interested. But its much easier to buy two "starter packs" of Magic and try and convince a friend to learn with you. You'll have a blast attacking with Craw Wurms and casting Disintegrate on each other.

Strangely, all the CCG's that I've REALLY liked are ones that died....Jyhad...errr Vampire; Middle Earth (the ICE one); and Doomtown.

As for Magic, I moved on from that around the time The Dark expansion came out.

I must disagree with that previous post. You will be bored to tears playing magic. Play a different CCG, any different CCG.

Never gotten into any card games like this. But after reading this thread the collector gene in me is screaming to start! Good thing I have no money.

It's one thing to like another game more, but that is just opinion. I personally thought magic was one of the most fascinating things I ever encountered and really only stopped playing because the place I used to play at closed its doors.

I have been told by many people that the Legend of Five Rings card game is also very good, though I have no first hand experience with it.
