Otto's Irresistable Dance

Is there any way to resist/counter that spell, when it is not your turn /have a readied action? My DM has horked me with it twice now, and is gonna cause me to die horribly. I think that Mind Blank will, but I'd like to see if there is another.

Thanks.

Well it's called irresistable for a reason...

Off hand?

Don't be in touch range.
Do not have a mind. (Or be immune to enchantments or compulsions)
Be in an antimagic shell.
Have spell resistance.
Be within a magically silenced area.
Be non-living.
Be a bard and dance to inspire confidence (Take that!)
Kill the bloody spellcaster before he gets his spell off.

I prefer the last option but for some reason it's not always possible. If you're getting screwed by this spell you should be somewhere close to 16th level. If this is what's getting tossed at you the rest of the party should puree the guy. Boring for you but the baddie is toast.

I'd like to try your recommendations but the only one that wouldmost likely come into play would be the SR option. In this instance, the OID caster uses range to his advantage (how he is able to use OID at over 120 feet distance blows me away - yes, you read correctly - I can only think it is a cheesy variation off of Project Image). He attacks with Simulacrums of himself as well, and furthur confuses the issue with Mirror Images and dominated innocents with Beads of Force as meat shields/suicide bombers.

And I'm not to happy with the SR option but it is at least a chance...however how slim.

And anti-magic is probably out too cuz my character is the party cleric w/ mass haste (celerity domain) and mass heal. A well timed antimagic shell might help though.

Would the antimagic stop the spell from launching entirely cuz it blocked the line of effect (i.e. wasted spell) or would it just be suspended (since he did touch me and the spell activated but is not in operation due to the antimagic)?

Thx again.

Range: Touch.

He could be using a familiar that you don't see to deliver it! This would be a simple solution, if his familiar had Improved Invisiblity and maybe a really good Hide skill as well.

It seems to me there is one or two other methods for delivering Range: "Touch" spells as well. I just can't remember right now.

Don't forget that you can use a Dispel Magic (or Greater Dispel Magic to counterspell.

You can also use any defense against "Mind-Affecting" spells. Mind Blank is an absolute protection:

Mind Blank

...This spell protects against all mind-affecting spells...

It is an 8th level spell. It should be effective.

The real answer is to have your fellow party members protect you. There are a million ways to do that.

If he is using multiple high level spells to sneak in the OID at range, you might consider eliminating his lines of sight and lines of effect with walls, fog, etc. That will disrupt his projected image and any illusions he is playing with. A tactical retreat would be reasonable as well.

The easiest way for him to deliver a touch spell at 120 feet is Spectral hand. Though, that would only be for level 4 spells or below. Hmm, must be his familiar! Declare a whirlwind attack at hit everything within 5ft including dust mights!

Seeing as how you're a cleric and likely have access to True Seeing if you are facing Otto's on a regular basis. It should let you see the invisble wizard/invisible familiar/projected image/whatever he's using. If he gets up close to you to do it, prep Slay Living and see who wins initiative :)

Of course, its also possible that he has researched a spell that allows him to use touch spells at range, like a higher level version of Spectral Hand.

I'd second the Mind Blank option if its available. Of course, being a cleric makes spell resistance incredibly easy to obtain.
